Snacks - what should I give???

My DD is 8mth old and has mashed food (off a spoon and some finger foods at meal times, 3 times a day.

The thing is I know she should have some snacks during the day which I want to be finger foods but am unsure what to give. We had a serious choking incident a couple of weeks ago where my mum had basically save her from choking to death on a biscotti biscuit. I am only now building my confidence back to giving her finger food!!

cubes of cheese, half a cherry tomato, raisins, bits of cooked meat, will think of more later

Hi CC21, my ds is almost 8 months, on 3 meals a day and is currently having finger foods such as
cheese on toast/buttered toast,
Organix mini rice cakes,
cooked pasta twirls,
grated cheese,
strips of omelette or pancake.
Steamed sticks of carrot or cauliflower
(mind you the majority of it ends up on the floor or stuck to his legs)

I really wanted to introduce strips of meat soon as he only has it pureed with veg or potato.
Good luck, sorry to hear about the choking incident must have been very scary.

bread and butter, malt loaf, fruit bread, bread sticks, ritz crackers, yogurt, scotch eggs, mini sausages, cooked vegetable's, pasta.

You could give strips of wafer thin ham/chicken which would hopefully be hard to choke on.

DS used to like peas which I squashed slighty and were easy for him to swallow.

Breadsticks are quite good, though I think proper ones are easier for them to chew without choking than the baby ones as my ds could fit a whole one in his mouth at once which wasn't good.

If your dd has front and bottom teeth through you could give her a whole apple to nibble on, just bite a bit out to start her off.

i actually think that the wafer thin stuff is quite gaggy as it's floaty and light. when it comes to meat a baby is better off with a lovely great fist-sized hunk that they can suck and chew at. slices of cheese are good, and apart from that just about any vegetable you can think of.

Thanks very much - she had some apple slices after lunch and sucked a bit ate a bit & no choking!!!

that's great, be very careful with the apple though, it's one of the few thigns dd ever choked on...

Apple is good,if you grate it.It really works, put a little pile on the tray, and they love it .And can't choke on it either!
