DS is coming up to 10mths, and largely feeds himself. he goes through phases of throwing his food on the floor but happily having mush instead (i think it coincides with teething). i don't really like using jars- any ideas for recipies or meals?

he likes chopped spaghetti in a homemade tomato and veg sauce, and mashed avocado.

having thrown his breakfast over the floor today, i need mush ideas for today.

At that age, our DD liked potatoes and mashed up veggies, cauliflower cheese, fish pie, moussaka, beef stew.

PregnantGrrrl · 13/04/2007 07:52

he refused mash with carrot and cheese. could try cauliflower cheese though.

why don't you give him what you're eating and blast it with a mouli first if he's in a mush mood

PregnantGrrrl · 13/04/2007 08:07

because i'm not eating the best at the moment!

i had cheese on toast and a feast ice lolly for tea last night!

hmmm .. I can see how mushing up those might not work

if he's mainly eating finger foods I'd just get a few organix jars in if I'm honest .. or next time I was cooking a decent meal would mouli up a few portions

Lentils make a good mush, red ones cook down into mush without having to blend or mash. Avoid turmeric because of the stains - I usually put a shake of ground ginger and paprika, sometimes a bit of garlic. Then either use it just like that or add bits and pieces of veggies, a spoon of plain yogurt or cottage cheese, if you cook rice you can stir that in to make it stodgy. I'm a bit cautious about saving cooked rice for later though.

Always popular with dd1, and still is now she's 3 (dd2 has mangaged some too).

i think i have some lentils hanging round

been and got some avocados, minced beef and cauli. will see what i come up with!

Have you got a slow cooker? I just chuck in some braising steak, veggies, tin tomatoes & sweet potato, (makes it nice and sweet for bubs) Chuck in some lentils about an hour before it's cooked

I do chicken stews with various veg for my 8 month old. Basically, I simmer the chicken with some veg for flavour (leek, carrot, garlic, onion), discard the veg, chop up the chicken and then cook small cubes of veg in the stock. If you puree half of it, you can leave the rest of the meat and cubes of veg unpureed for a bit of texture. And you can add whole pasta or rice, too, or lentils. Chicken/leek/onion/potato and chicken/sweet potato/onion/lentil have both been really popular.

Also, I make frozen cubes of cheese sauce and add them to cooked frozen broccoli/cauliflower which I mash with a fork. That's a really nice easy healthy meal.
