Quick and easy lunches for 10 month old?

DS seems to be living on a lunchtime diet of soft cheese butties, hard cheese butties, low salt/sugar beans on toast... any ideas that can be prepared in less time than it takes him to pull all the washing of my airer and post all his toys through the stairgate??!!

Toast and humous
Avocado
cheesy mash and some veg

Off the top of my head:
omelettes?
mini baked potatoes (done in microwave)
pancakes? I put savoury fillings in them, e.g feta and pesto
pasta salad or quick cook tortellini
gnocci
breadsticks dipped in hoummus

fishfingers (grilled) and peas is ds's fav snack lunch. however, best is to freeze 'mini meals' (usually our leftovers put in small pots) and then defrost in m'wave. takes only a few mins.

ds (10mo) usually has what we had night before from fridge - so i second the m'wave idea. will do that when he goes to childminder so less prep time in morning too

pasta in veg puree (also preped earlier and in fridge or freezer) is also fav.

Yumm!! Now I'm feeling hungry! What do poeple do about salt though? My HV has made me worried about the ammount of salt in things so haven't tried him on humous, ham etc. When can you stop worrying about salt? I don't mean that I'm going to add it to stuff, but lots of things we buy to eat ourselves have salt in them, yet HV says to get DS to eat what we do? (We aren't convience food people so I don't mean microwave meals, just things like breadsticks, perhaps the occasional carton of soup etc)

I know, remember reading something on another website about how salty certain breads were! Like the toast pizza idea, and anything with cream cheese on goes down very well. Would a bit of mayo be ok to give as long as he's ok with eggs? He quite likes tuna but its a bit dry for him to swallow on its own iykwim

What about potato cakes? My friend gives her DS them but all the ones I can find have a list of ingredients a mile long and I don't tend to buy things if I can't read/pronounce things in them!

Just to add to Littlelapin's post - I do the pizza idea on crumpets and they are delicious - Ds doesn't seem that keen but I am - yummy!

I used to make my own houmous with canned chickpeas in unsalted water, sainsbury's do em. Add a clove of garlic, lemon juice and you are away. My dd used to love eggy bread, either with marmite or a sweet version with cinnamon and some berries on the side. Pitta bread cut into triangles with cucumber grated into yoghurt used to go down well aswell.

rantinghousewife · 10/04/2007 20:45

Oh and egg noodles with brocoli, used to keep her amused for ages!!
