All no added sugar stuff contains Aspartame which is nasty stuff.

Lunchables, well the ham isnt ham, its probably made up of Soya, pigs trotters, cows stomach and sheeps eyes.

Marmite, not sure.

I've never looked at fruit shoots ingredients tbh so not sure! I have recently read a few discussions on aspartame though and it's not good. Babies actually don't need juice. dd only has water with her meals.. in fact my ds (7years) still prefers water!

Marmite is very salty and I won't be giving it to dd until over a year old

Lunchables are all very processed and I think thats the problem, processed foods are 99% full of crap and salt. I don't like processed food much myself so don't have it in the house.

you've posted this in weaning, so i guess your child is under 1? in which case i would say no to fruit shoots, stick to plain old water. marmite i would say is too salty (and it's gross, but that's just imo!). lunchables again i'd say no because it's processed to within an inch of its life. they are doing 'subs' now. but then why not just give your kid a normal sandwich? why go in for all the marketing crap that's aimed at kids. get your kid used to proper food, the earlier the better

You only use tiny amounts of Marmite at a time, though, so the amounts of salt are tiny too. And it's packed full of vitamins as well.

Oh c'mon. You don't have to smother the toast in marmite. My DS started having marmite on toast occasionally when he was 18 months onwards. I'm talking the slightest hint of it. Better than packing him off to nursery on an empty stomach when he refuses tge flippin' Weetabix that he insisted on helping to make. Grrrr...

Fruit Shoots? Get it out of their systems ASAP. What's wrong with water? DS drinks that and never complains. Sure, he's had water with squash at nursery but as long as you stick to water at home then they won't know! As a "treat" he tries a sip of our sparkling mineral water. he thinks it's special because it tickles his nose!

As you have realised, you're best off giving your baby things that are as unprocessed as possible - fresh fruit, vegetables, ordinary cheese, meat and fish if you eat them, eggs, beans, bread, rice, pasta, etc. Ready made stuff you get from the supermarket tends to be jammed full of salt and lots of additives - not so good for small people at all.

I agree with your comment about exercising control while you can, and it can perhaps help to shape their tastebuds towards more healthy food?

I didn't give marmite when I realised how salty it was. There's plenty of other foods that a baby can have to get the same nutrients from IMO.

Also, bear in mind that what you feed your child will influence his or her taste in foods. If they get used to salty and/or processed foods early on, they won't really want to eat the other stuff and that can get tricky.
