Gruyere cheese in recipes

Hello everyone,
New on here but just looking for some advice. I tend to make baby's food homemade and have used several recipes from Annabel Karmel but I noticed some recipes (the Popeye pasta) asks for Gruyere cheese. As this is unpasteurised is anyone able to advise if this is safe enough or if you can buy pasteurised versions?

Thanks in advance

No unpasteurised products unless you really know how and where it is sourced from and was the health of the animal.

Thank you! That's what I thought so was surprised that gruyere cheese was listed in the ingredients.
Wasn't sure if you can get unpasteurised gruyere? I don't know enough about cheese! Confused
I'll maybe just stick some cheddar in instead.
Thanks

Is gruyere generally unpasteurised?
Anyway, I cook that for the DCs regularly and nearly always use cheddar.

Zahrah5 · 02/08/2017 17:11

Well, Annabel Carmel is not exactly healthy or gentle weaning food, so Im not surprised she uses that.

Belle2017 · 02/08/2017 17:14

I'm not sure if it is generally unpasteurised or not but if cheddar works then I'll just go with that. Thank you.

I'm not sure about this. Parmesan is often unpasteurised but often used in many baby recipes (blw staple pesto) I know in pregnancy unpasteurised hard cheeses such as Parmesan and Gruyere are fine, brie and Camembert can be eaten if cooked. I'd always assumed similar for weaning, I presume the risk is listeria.

I use cheddar anyway

What's wrong with AK recipes? Confused

weebarra · 02/08/2017 17:28

Zahrah - not a fan of AK, but that seems a bit harsh. The Popeye pasta OP refers to is spinach and cheese pasta. My DCs are 9, 7 and 4, so not weaning.

What's wrong with AK recipes?

Every time you make an AK recipe a carrot dies

AK is secretly trying to make your baby fat

AK book sales fund ISIS

I heard a rumour that AK once fed a baby Weetabix

LaurieMarlow · 08/08/2017 14:44

Seriously, I've never understood the MN hate for AK. I enjoyed making her recipes and DS loved them.

Out2pasture · 08/08/2017 14:48

Wouldn't the cooking process in effect pasteurize it?

LapinR0se · 08/08/2017 14:52

What's wrong with Annabelle K?

FartnissEverbeans · 09/08/2017 00:14

There's nothing wrong with AK. The weaning board is a strange place

LapinR0se · 09/08/2017 07:10

Ah ok

SnugglySnerd · 09/08/2017 07:14

I recently went to a talk by the hv about weaning and asked about if babies can eat all the stuff you are meant to avoid in pregnancy. She said it's fine for them to eat anything except honey or things they can choke on (nuts mainly). My oldest certainly ate everything and she was fine.

dementedpixie · 09/08/2017 07:16

If you're going to cook it then it doesn't matter if it's unpasteurised. It's the same with unpasteurised cheese in pregnancy...cook it to make it safe
