Would anyone be able to help me with a dilemma that dh and I are currently having please.
Ds is comming up to 6 months and we are discussing weaning. I have read up on blw via the blog and threads on mn and discussed them with dh.

It does sound like somthing I want to try but dh would like to know why we should move away from traditional weaning. Could anyone explain why it is better to blw than puree.

Thank you x

Aitch/Dizzy - he'll eat some fruit, sometimes (mostly banana and pear but he gets cross with not being able to hold them properly), and the roasted veg is the only stuff he'll touch. Totally mushy brocolli and carrot is soooper fun to redecorate the Antilop and the floor but none goes in his mouth.

Thanks for bubble and squeak patties idea, sounds delish! I'll try it... and I might even give some to the baby{grin]

Neither of my babies has ever had a problem with lumps. I started them on finger foods just before 6 mths old, long before either of them had a puree. Actually, my second has never had a puree in his life - mashed food, yes, but purees no. He does finger foods extremely well - picking up strips of chicken at 7 mths old.

Have you read the active convos lately?

I suggest you do!

Personally I think it is a mistake to think that any one way of weaning is inherently "better" than another. That's just setting yourself up for stress if you think you should be doing something because it's "better'. From what I can see, BLW suits some babies and some mothers, but not all. So some people find it "better' but that doesn't mean it is better per se - just better for those people.

The only things to worry about with weaning, IMO, are that you start at the right time, introduce foods gradually and never try to make your child eat something if they don't want it. Those rules can apply to either BLW or traditional pureeing.

hear, hear fluffyanimal. BLW is another way. there might be some benefits to it (you get to eat your dinner hot) or there might not (it is messy in the beginning). and the idea is not to stress about weaning at all if you can.
