Dinner ideas for 7 month old

My DS is 7 months old and I've been weaning him for around a month. He has a mixture of mashed food and finger food. He's taken to it really well and will eat almost anything I put in front of him!

Depending on how the day has been he will sometimes have 3 'meals' a day. I seem to have lots of ideas for breakfast and lunch but dinner stumps me a bit.

I know most people say to offer whatever DH and I are having but a lot of the time what we are eating doesn't seem suitable, esp now the weather is warmer and we're having more salads. Doesn't seem right just giving DS salad for dinner Confused I think I've got myself in a bit of a pickle about it all to be honest.

An example of what DS eats is:

B - porridge with fruit, yoghurt and fruit, toast/rice cake with various toppings, banana pieces.

L - avocado/cream cheese on toast, soft cheese sandwich, veggies, fruit pieces, yoghurt

D - I then run out of ideas! If DS has had bread for breakfast, he won't have it for lunch and then I don't want to offer it again at dinner time. He does like sweet potato, broccoli, fish for his dinner or I will defrost something for him like spag bol or macaroni cheese that I've frozen in an ice cube tray for him but I don't seem to have much in the way of variety.

So after that long essay (Blush) what do you offer for dinner? Or does it not bloody matter? Grin

We have similar breakfasts and lunch here for DD, 8M

For evening meal I prep in advance as our dinners often aren't suitable. I freeze in small portion tubs and defrost in the morning then reheat. Serve with steamed veg finger sticks if needed.

This recipe -www.annabelkarmel.com/recipes/cod-spinach-puree/ goes down well in our house. I mash rather than puree and often add different veg, broccoli and kale for example and adjust cooking time.

I also do a mince and veg casserole type thing which again I mash she loves this one.

Roast butternut squash blended with milk and a little cheese makes a good sauce for small pasta shapes I then add finely diced and cooked veg and meat (usually leftover from a roast)

Scrambled egg is good if you're in a rush, or fingers of tortilla / omelette with veg

I can also recommend the AK rice pudding recipe for a treat, I skip adding sugar and add a spoon of fruit puree but tbh it's delicious on it's own I always hope she doesn't have room to finish a pudding Grin

Thanks reset I think it's mostly down to my lack of planning. Breakfast and lunch seem to be really chilled out but come dinner time I seem to be more rushed and then remember I haven't organised anything for DSs dinner Blush

Thanks for the annabel karmel recipe, looks like something DS would have so will certainly make some of that. Great idea for the pasta sauce too!

We tried scrambled egg a couple of weeks ago but DS looked at me like I'd gone mad, perhaps it's time to try that again.

I also think I'm going to meal plan a bit for DS like I do for me and DH. That way I won't be left trying to cobble something together at the last minute Grin

I was the same. Poor DD was given steamed veg sticks and pitta with cream cheese quite a few nights then I realised I need to be more prepared.

I tend to make a couple of meals at the weekend when DH is occupying DD and freeze so I just need to remember to pull out in the morning. The AK fish recipe is a one pan so quick to make (I use frozen fillets) and the beef mince stew is easy too so not much messing around. I'm looking for more quick things myself so if you find any please share!

I'd be happy to give a jar or pouch now and again but my DD won't touch them :/

I did have some success with egg omelette type things cooked in a muffin tray but I haven't tried them since and we don't always have time for DD to feed herself in the evening

Well we tried scrambled egg again at lunchtime and it was a success! So that's something else on the list and means he'll probably enjoy omelette and frittata type things too.

Just signing up to the annabel karmel website and then thinking of ways to adjust for different veg. Going to try some strips of cooked chicken too as I must admit meat has scared me a bit but if he can feed himself scrambled egg I'm guessing chicken won't be too difficult.

My DS is the same with pouches, I don't think he likes the texture of them. I do use the Ella's Kitchen fruit pouches though so I can quickly add some to his breakfast or yoghurt. I means he can have some mango without me spending the time cutting up a whole mango just for him to dump it on the floor Blush
