What's the general consensus re. milk when baby turns 1 ?

Is it solely cow's milk ?

How many ounces a day ?

Do I ditch the bottles ?

When my children turned 1, I offered them ordinary cow's milk on cereal and to drink in a cup. Dd2 refused both. The only dairy products she had were things like cheese, yoghurt and similar desserts, and butter, for some time. I had no problem with that. She ate plenty of other things, and drank other fluids. She is now 10, and perfectly healthy. She has never had cow's milk as a drink, but does accept it on cereal, having discovered one she really likes.

It's very difficult to avoid dairy products altogether, as any one with a dairy intolerance/allergy will tell you.

I remember discovering in an Enid Blyton book, when I was a child, that other people's mothers had this milk fixation. Weird. Milk is for babies. Older children and adults can eat a variety of foods.

The HV told me yesterday when I asked the same Q that it's best to phase the cow's milk in gradually after they are one. She suggested half formula, half cow's milk for the first attempt and then up the cow's milk. she reckoned bottles get so loaded with milk bacteria you need to keep sterilising so therefore suggested I try to ditch the bottles. Am starting today with a cup for water, and then will try it for milk in a couple of weeks.
