From breast to formula?

Hey

Having a bit of a nightmare with my breasts. I have been exclusively feeding breastfeeding for 4week's and I have become increasingly sore.. nipples have even split! So for the past week I have been trying to gradually introduce formula to my baby but she keeps being sick and I end up gping back to breast. :/ I feel guilty for wanting to put her onto formula mainly because of her being sick :( Could this be the type of formula I'm using ? (Aptimel) anyone had this problem ? Is there any recommend milk I could try?

Thank you xFlowers

Formula brands are all very similar as there are laws about their ingredients. There are very minor differences so you could try a different brand.

Have you had any expert help with your breastfeeding issues? Has your baby been checked for tongue tie, and has anyone checked your latch? Nipple shields can help prevent more nipple damage and help you heal.

Sounds like a plan I'm off to clinic tomorrow for weigh in so I will ask someone to check her tongue an also see if I can see a professional about my feeding. I'm on the hunt for a new milk today also . Thank you for your advice Smile

The being sick might be because the bottle provides milk more consistently and more quickly than the breast, so she's guzzling too quickly? The sphincter at the top of the stomach isn't very strong in babies, if too much milk goes in quickly it usually comes straight back out again.

There are ways to bottle feed that mimic breastfeeding that you could try.

Not sure if you have already tried it, but Lanisoh is great for nipples. Good luckx

Do you have Lansinoh Lanolin HPA nipple cream? Purple tube.

Obviously don't want to sway you if you've already made up your mind to switch, as I'm sure your little on will find a formula that suits and do really well on it, but I had similar issues to you at 4 weeks. I found it horrendously painful, sore, I was scared my nipples would drop off as they looked so terrible. Thought I'd give seeing the breastfeeding support team a go as a last resort before switching and they managed to help me latch him properly, turns out he'd been latching on fine but then slipping backwards as the feed went on as the milk was coming out fast and he couldn't deal with it. We then went on to feed for another year +. And my nipples healed really quick too, literally a couple of days, I couldn't believe it. But real life bf support was what did it.
Just thought I'd give you another perspective in case you did want to continue. Good luck whatever works for you and your baby! Smile

Hey guys

Thank you for all your help Smile
I changed the formula and she seems to be getting on with it better than before. I am using it on combination with breastfeeding as I would like to feed for a bit longer.

Feeding my baby one bottle of formula feed daily allows me to express more during the day and gives my poor boobs a rest. I put my purple lansinoh cream on and it's helping Grin health visitor has said latch is OK
