How does BLW work in this case?

Afternoon lovely ladies,
My DD is 7 and a half months old. She's been on a flexible routine since the early weeks and is now breastfed at (roughly) 7,11,3 and 6.30 before bed. Since introducing solids at 5 and a half months (because she was envious of my food and her good sleeping habits went haywire until she started food) she's been on porridge and purees, and I've also let her muck around with most of the stuff I'm pureeing in its solid state/in bits, so she knows where food comes from, and I don't make a big deal about finishing food. Some stuff she shoves in her mouth herself. I know I'm not doing BLW and just what most mums I know do ie a combo of purees and finger foods, but there are a few things that I think make BLW difficult for us anyway - would the BLW experts among you agree or have any ideas for getting round the following?:
DD already has six front teeth so everything she puts in her mouth she bites on and ends up gagging on chunks too big to chew.
I haven't introduced wheat yet as we are a bit of an allergic family and I'm being cautious, so no toast or pasta so far. And like hunkermunker, I and DH have allergies to that same big group of fruits esp in raw state, so I'm not giving DD raw apple, pear etc and steamed they go so mushy I might as well help her. So choice of finger foods seems limited.
Also, I eat cereal, yoghurt and soup with a spoon, so is it so bad to help DD do this as well?
Plus she is not demand fed (I work from home so need a routine) and I know that she needs more calories than she is getting in four big double-boob feeds a day.
Any thoughts? I have an open mind!
Pinchy xx

could someone direct me to an explanation of BLW ? What is wrong with using a spoon?

teeth not much different from just gums. gummy babies still take hinks out of pieces of food. they get over the gagging thing. it's part of learning to eat. they gag on puree or mash too.

as for variety of finger foods..i assume your own diet is fairly varied. just give what you have. no need to think of things as specifically finger food. lasagne can be finger food, as can gnocchi (current favourite), anything really..just depends how much mess you can cope with! have you looked into 'free from' foods at all?

with yoghurt i pour it on fruit, soup, i pour on bread or toast, or dip bread in. cereal i drain the milk off and let dd eat it soggy, porridge i make thick so she can pick it up in clumps.

My DD used to bite bits off and gag a bit but its all part of the learning process that whether BLW or puree feeding they have to learn at some point so why not now (thats how i saw it anyway) with practice she will get better at feeding herself

TBH if you have already weaned her on puree and porridge I don't see a problem with you carrying on using spoons for things like yoghurt and giving finger food at other times as technically it wouldn't be BLW as she has already been weaned for 2 months on puree iykwim
