Ive tried to make it several times and end up with a wet soggy floppy rubbery type thing. Is that right ??? Dd1 retched when I got it out of the frdge lol! It was soo lovingly prepared with ground blanched almonds and apricots too !!

I envisaged it being like flap jacks or is that totally the wrong texture ?

Rubber is pretty much what you're aiming for. Kind of cold and clammy!

Don't add (too much) banana as they don't set.

SoupDragon · 11/03/2007 19:55

Not that you're meant to add banana but DD loved banana porridge so I tried making a banana porridge pancake once. It didn't work!

hi soupy, lol at posts, think dd2 would like the banana version. Will try again.

I used to add cinnamon to mine.

Not that a single morsel of porridge pancake ever passed BabyDragon's lips unless I put a chunk on a s*dding spoon and fed her

I couldn't get the hang of them until hub2dee actually made one in my presence, and they were easy after that! Can you describe exactly how you're making them?

melsy · 11/03/2007 22:24

ok microwaving with formula into a thick thick sticky consistency , adding the nut & fruit mix and then spreading a layer about 5mm thick into a square Tupperware, lid on . Leaving in fridge overnight to set. Tried to peel it off ,cut it & it all collapses into bits and moosh.

Melsy - this might not be relevant - but do you have any allergies in the family? Because I think in that case it's not recommended to give nuts to babies.

As to the problem - ime the porridge itself gets very dry, so that suggests to me that there's maybe too much fruit? Have you tried using less?

melsy · 11/03/2007 22:36

Not allergies as such , but there is ezcema and IBS.

Ok so teeny bit of fruit

She hasnt had any nuts yet, shes 7mths now btw.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so interfering! (We're a very allergic family so I'm a bit paranoid, take no notice of me)

I have to admit that mine are often a bit soggy. The other thing I do is cook them a bit longer if they're very soft when they first come out.

CantSlimWontSlim · 12/03/2007 08:40

I would say that if it's soft enough to actually tip out into a tupperware tub after cooking, then you've either used too much milk, or not cooked it for long enough. You really need to cook it in whatever you're going to chill it in, and do it until it's really stiff (so that if you then stirred it, which you shouldn't do, it would be left standing up in peaks where the spoon had gone through it).

SoupDragon · 12/03/2007 13:05

Yes, you cook it in whatever you're setting it in and then I believe the technical term is "don't fanny about with it". Mix everything together, microwave it, leave it.
