Just a list of ideas please! DD gags on everything, well everything that goes near her mouth which isn't a lot. She has no teeth so I'm guessing things like pancakes, cheerios etc are out of the question.

So far we've done:
pear (wouldn't touch)
banana (wouldn't touch)
carrot (mashed into puree)
sweet potato (ditto)
organix carrot wotsit things (sucked on)
heinz biscotti (nearly choked on)
rice cakes (sucked on)
soggy shreddies (choked on)
gnawing on my whole apple (likes but is just sucking)
gammon (likes but is just sucking)

I -know- it's not all about eating, but she only seems to be remotely interested in the processed crap. More ideas please!

grated cheese?

Hulababy · 08/03/2007 21:42

DD didn't get teeth until she was 13 months old, but I still offered her normal food at the times recommended at that time, inc meat, fish, veg, carbs, etc. No teeth made no difference to her eating and she could manage any of those thinks with just her gums.

Just keep offering a nice balanced mix of foods and she will get there. At this age it is just experimenting really anyway, with milk making up the most of her diet and nutrients, etc.

She will get past the gagging stage, how long have you been blw?

They don't need teeth for pancakes. In fact they don't need teeth for most things, although agree they help with crunchy foods.

You could try something like the sweetcorn patties from Aitch's blog - they are yummy for the whole family, so if your dd won't eat them, you can!

You could also try fish, toast, pasta, most veg softly cooked in chip shaped pieces, broccoli florets.

lunavix · 08/03/2007 22:18

oh yes we did broccoli too, wouldn't touch it.

Made a good attempt at eating a toy car today after spending 15 min brmmming it across the floor...

Is bread okay? We don't have a toaster...

Do you not have a grill either lunavix? Bread is ok, but it tends to go clumpy and stick to the roof of their mouths more than toast. My dd is the only baby I've known who actually seemed to prefer bread to toast (she was toothless too at this point), so there's certainly no harm in trying it.

BizzyDint · 09/03/2007 09:09

it doesn't matter about teeth, they can still chew stuff. and don't be put off if your baby doesn't straight away take to things, offer it again.

at 7/8 months my dd only had one teeny tiny tooth. she just ate normal everyday food. she had full christmas dinner at 7 months, turkey, lamb, yorkshire puds, all the veg.

other things you might not have tried..

gnocchi (next to fresh pasta at the supermarlet, or you can make your own) mix it with pesto or grate cheese on top.

try doing veg in a different way, maybe roast it?

spaghetti. twist it into balls/nests, dollop sauce/bolognaise in the middle of the balls/nests...and let baby loose! lots of fun!

omelette. you can add all kinds of things to it, potato, peas, broccoli, peppers..

dried fruit, particularly apricots. they go down well, nice and sweet and sticky.

one last thing as well...when you say your baby wouldn't touch certain things, are you letting her have a go for long enough? if i was busy doing something in the kitchen i'd plonk dd in her highchair with a peach cut in half (skin on, stone out) and let her play/eat it until i was finished. so if that was me cleaning out cupboards, she'd have maybe an hour with this peach. she soon learned what to do and how nice 'food' was. this was alongside normal meals when we'd sit round the table together and she'd see us eating and enjoying our food.

DetentionGrrrl · 09/03/2007 09:19

my DS does have two teeth, but he loves quiche and jacket potato cut into chunks. I don't think he needs his teeth for them myself!

he also likes tinned peach slices in juice. I just put a few on his tray and he demolishes them- they're very soft.

and i'd be careful with gammon- it's very, very high in salt. (which is a shame when it's so tasty!)

lunavix · 11/03/2007 12:01

Thanks everyone

So at 7 months I should really been chucking nearly everything at her?

Interesting... I'm just worried about taking it a bit quick.

Basically I've tried her with most fruit and veg chunks I'm wondering what 'other' things to try.

lunavix- i think the thing to get your head round is that most weaning plans are based on strating at 4 months (when a baby isn't really ready for weaning) so the early weeks are very very cautious, one taste at a time, mixed with milk sometimes, gradually increasing texture and combing flavours. by doing blw you're by passing this (if you're comfortable to), because your baby is controlling the amounts, combinations etc. if your baby doesn't want it he won't eat it.

lunavix · 11/03/2007 12:07

So basically it's anything and anything? Nothing really to avoid (except obviously dairy and gluten/wheat if needed, and the basics such as peanuts, honey etc...)

yes!

caspercat · 11/03/2007 12:15

My DD is 7.5 mths. Recent things she's had for lunch include : babycorn, peas, pasta with red pepper pesto and grated cheese, slices of cold organic beef/ham, mini roasties & parsnips, cheese on toast, chunky toast dipped in homemade soup, veggie sausage and some of dh's lasagne as well as the usual fruit/veg. Hope that helps xxx

caspercat · 11/03/2007 12:16

She also is a toothless wonder

lunavix · 11/03/2007 20:26

I feel a bit reassured now.

I was going to give her pancake for breakfast but she didn't wake up.

For lunch she had some croissant, and strawberry. Don't think she ate much but not too worried, I'm trying to keep cool She also drank water out of a sippy cup - she's never done that before.

For dinner she had some yorkshire pudding, sucked on a bit of pork, and visibly ate quite a bit of purple sprouting broccoli (can't imagine why I think it tastes like ear wax ) and to shut MIL up she also spooned herself/her bib half one of those tiny jars of apple puree. I know purees aren't really in the vein of blw, but MIL was going on and on, so I agreed but only if dd did it herself. Plus I told myself that it was to complement the pork
