Am preparing myself to wean dd, and want to buy one book that gives me an idea of what to do! So if you were only going to consult one book on weaning, which one would it be?

Without a doubt - "New Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner" by Annabel Karmel.

In fact practically every mother I know has it.

GingGangGooley · 06/03/2007 21:13

I have 2 on my website that are great. (it's in my profile)

In fact the 365 meals one is great and we all enjoyed a meal from it this evening!

Especially great since I have a 9 month old and a 7 year old it's nice to have a book that goes all through the ages iykwim!

If anyone does come across any other great ones let me know and I'll try and seek them out lol am trying to make my site as resourceful as possible!

Would second Anabel Karmel although I used her super foods one.

I am one of the few people that didn't really like Annabel Karmel, although i have to admit i only briefly looked at her books. I follow Tracy Hogg's 12 week plan in " The baby whisperer". A detailed 12 week plan from age 6 months. I used this in conjunction with Susannah Olivier's "What should i feed my Baby". The latter is a parent and nutritionist. It gives really easy to understand nutrition information from birth to 2 years with detailed feeding plans for the different age groups and stages. lots of recipes and ideas. This is particularly useful if you are worried about food allergies or intolerances. All my friends used this book to a certain extent and i still refer to it for recipe ideas for the whole family.

Dizzy beat me to it, but I agree wholeheartedly, and I'll do the link properly for you BabyLedWeaning .

There's another one I can't mention that's really very good. It really helped me to get through all the confusion of early weaning and my DS now enjoys every food that's put in front of him. It worked for me and I can't recommend it highly enough in terms of factual information on what foods to introduce and when. Now he's a bit older I'm no longer following any plan, but I still find this book and the Annabel Karmel one useful for ideas. Personally I think the AK one is a bit light on factual information.

ruth2007 · 07/03/2007 23:53

I agree the AK one is a bit "lite" on the theory behind child nutrition but it is easy to follow in the beginning although she gets a bit complicated after a few weeks - as if your Child will suffer should you ever dream of feeding the same thing twice in a row
