BLW and poo

Is it normal for my 9 month old to still be having VERY RUNNY AND LARGE poos? They are basically milk poos (except huge as she now usually goes just once a day) with chunks of food in...My nappy liners are somewhat redundant as the poo just soaks all around/up behind them and my lovely nappies are covered in brown and yellow stains. any ideas on how to thicken things up somewhat??

Oh I don't know - so bump?

AitchTwoOh · 01/03/2007 20:06

i'm not sure about this either. i know i've seen dizzy saying that her baby's poos became like human poo very quickly, but dd's were milky with bits in for months. definitely until about 11 months. and nowadays it depends what she's eating or whether she's teething as to the consistency. fun and games...

skibump · 01/03/2007 20:09

If there's food then it's not being digested (probably not chewed enough?)- can you make the food a smoother consistency?

WeaselMum · 01/03/2007 20:11

my ds still produces poo like this at 9 months. I'm not doing BLW but he still has a lot of milk and not much in the way of solids - would think this is quite normal?

skibump · 01/03/2007 20:30

Oh sorry, didn't read it properly

Enid · 01/03/2007 20:32

dd3s poos are like that when she has a tummy upset

I have to say she only has those chunks when she is poorly (has had tummy upset recently)

normally they are runny-ish but no discernible lumps (except baked beans which come through whole - but white obv, fascinating)

Jillyadoodledoo · 01/03/2007 20:59

LOL at enids fascination

Enid · 01/03/2007 21:11

obsession you mean

DizzyBint · 02/03/2007 08:37

is your baby eating much in the way of solids? dd's poos did quite dramaticaly change from bf runny mustard poos to fully formed roll off teh nappy poos. but she did quickly start eating a lot of solids. maybe your baby's are runny because he's still taking a lot of milk in? i'm really not sure.

SaucyMoo · 02/03/2007 10:06

i think it must be because she isnt chewing it and breaking off big bits..i think this would happen with blw wouldnt it as milk is the main meal and the baby just bites bits off...as someone said, she needs to learn to chew more..maybe make chewing movements with your mouth to show her while shes eating?

AitchTwoOh · 02/03/2007 10:11

i just don't think it's a problem, other than your nappies aren't coping with it. we had quite a few leaks as well, but we use disposables so we just moved up a size. can't you do that with your cloth nappies?

i wrote a thing about poos on the blog, i think there were a few comments there as well. for the record dd is 14 months and yesterday she did a poo the colour of peanut butter and very runny. she's teething...

fluffyanimal · 02/03/2007 12:20

This was par for the course with us. Ds still poos 2 or 3 times a day and they are often more peanut-buttery than neat little turds. I spend my life sluicing out nappy wraps!

Enid · 02/03/2007 12:26

dd3s are EXACTLY like peanut butter, well, if peanut butter came with added carrots, when she is teething

Enid · 02/03/2007 12:26

oh, and if it was very runny peanut butter (with added carrot)

AitchTwoOh · 02/03/2007 12:32
Enid · 02/03/2007 12:33

and very, very stinky

oh so stinky

(did I mention the carrot?)

Jillyadoodledoo · 02/03/2007 13:11

LOL at enid.
Speaking of stink. DD had apple yesterday. Only 1/4 of an apple. No particular sign of it in the poo, apart from it really smelt of apple

AitchTwoOh · 02/03/2007 13:16

...not any more. [nausea]

claireybee · 02/03/2007 13:53

She chews quite well (as well as someone with no teeth can anyway!)-i think the lumps are more when i dont steam things soft enough, for example carrot or when she has things like sweetcorn. It's more the runnyness i was wondering about but she doesnt eat a lot really so thats probably it. I have noticed that when i'm particularly lazy and give her a lot of bread products they do get stickier-presumably because she eats more of bread etc and it is digested better
