I am hoping you will all tell me I'm making a fuss about nothing. .. I gave my DC2, 5 months, who is ready for some food her first taste of something proper this afternoon.

I haven't read up this time, second baby and all that.

I gave her some carrot and apple purée, which she really seemed to like.

I had previously roasted the carrots for an adult meal. I boiled them a little softer today for her, before blending with the apple.

i've just realised I put honey on them before roasting.

And I remember honey is a big no no for little babies. Will I have boiled it off?! Or should I be worried?
Am I absurd?!

Hi, I think it is something to do with a bacteria found in honey that can make babies unwell.

I'm no doctor, but if it were me I would just keep an eye of her and not worry too much.

Link here which gives more detail on why it can be an issue;

On the basis that:

  • The amount of honey will be minute
  • You roasted the carrots so they were cooked for a long time to kill any potentially harmful bacteria
  • The risk with honey is small anyway
Everything should be fine!

Thanks so much for the replies.
Yes in fact they've now been cooked twice, roasted and boiled, so hopefully that will have well and truly blasted any nasties.
Better throw the rest away though!

Apparently household cooking methods aren't hot enough to kill botulism spores, so honey is a no even if cooked. But it's very very rare for honey to contain the spores, so I wouldn't worry about it any more, and just remember no honey next time.
