Crying when finished BF is she ready to wean?

Hi my DD is 24 weeks and crys after each BF even though she won't take any more milk. I have to distract her with a walk around the house, if we sit on the sofa she wants to try and feed again. Could she be ready for weaning?

I had been trying to go to 26 weeks due to allergies in the family but she is showing all the other signs - grabbing at my plate and cup, shoves anything and everything into her mouth! etc. She ate so much this morning that she was sick everywhere when I put her back in her cot.

She is a good wieght for her age and has exclusively demand BF so far.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hm, not sure I quite understand...as you say first she crys after each bf even though she won't take any more milk and then you say you have to distract her by taking her for a walk aorund teh house, because of you sit down she wants to try and feed again?
Maybe she is getting frustrated when the milk comes slower?
Or have you tried latching her onto the other side, maybe she is thirsty?

i'm not sure what you mean either. perhaps she just wants a wee break before goin back to feed some more?

How is she with sleeping? My DS is a bit older (nearer 7 months) and really roots for the boob when he is tired. He'll then feed and sometimes come off crying because he's overtired.

When you say she won't take any more milk, do you mean she won't latch on again?

Thanks for coming back to me. She latches on and off as if she wants some more then changes her mind. She always has both sides now. I have tried offering her more after a few minutes but she usually refuses it even though there is milk left.

I did think that she was thirsty a few times but when I asked the BF counselor HV at our local group they just seemed to dismiss it as her being picky.

As for sleeping she does this as well maewest.I am sleep training at the minute which she has done very well with (because she was always fed to sleep but has started to wake if I move her). Once down at night she goes 5-6 hours between feeds but is very "snacky" in the day time.

Perhaps I need to structure her feeds a bit more now she is sleeping at regular times?

Any more thoughts?

Ruth

Actually the sleep training might be the root of the problem....if she always was fed to sleep and now she isn't...maybe she is a bit confused on what is actually going on?

Also, if your lil one sleeps well through the night, then it's natural for her to want more in the day, but they can feed incredibly efficient when they get older and a feed can be over and done with within minutes, which by no means means, that it was just a snack...
Also, is it possible that your lil one is teething...I found my lil boys get incredible frustrated when teething...partly going into Nursing strikes, partly feeding but being frustrated at the same time.

I don't think crying after a breastfeed is a sign for weaning readyness, neither are grabbing food nor shoving things into their mouths,lol...and you say you want to wait because of allergys in teh family, which to me sounds like a very good reason to waitIt's not as it is a long waiting time anyway, but, with allergys this short period could well possibly make the difference.

Also, with the sicknees thing...must say, my 3 were all happy chuckers....so, always chucked what felt like at least half a feed up...but if they gain weight well, it's just a completely normal reaction. (If unpleasant for anyone holding them at the time...)

Funnily enough I just realised she might have a bit of pain from teething! I didn't think of it today as she was not red in the face like usual.
I just gave her some powders which usually helps.

I am also thinking she is maybe getting so efficient at feeding that she is full but just likes nursing for longer (she has always been a bit of a comfort nurser)

Am definately going to hold out until 26 weeks, and thanks to the site I have had my interest of BLW sparked so am going to do a bit of research into that now!

Thanks

Ruth

My DS is also on and off if he doesn't feel so well. He has had a blocked nose due to a cold and I figure this must make a difference when bf.
