MY 14 WEEK OLD BOY(ON WED COMING UP), HAS BEEN A REASONABLY GOOD SLEEPER GOING DOWN AT 7 AND SLEEPING GENERALLY TO ANYWHEE BETWEEN 6 AND HALF 7 AM, ANYWAY YESTERDAY HE WOKE AT HALF 5 FED AND WENT BACK OVER TILL HALF NINE AND THEN LAST NIGHT (HE MUST HAVE SENSED I WAS GOING OUT ON A GIRLS NIGHT) HE WOKE AT 2AM AND 6AM AT BOTH TIMES TAKING AROUND 4-5 OZ, CLEARLY I AM NOT IMPRESSED WITH THIS NEW GAME AND WE HAVE HAD A CHAT ABOUT IT BUT IT DINT SEEM TO GO IN! ANYWAY WHAT TO DO? HE IS ON SMA GOLD AND THOUGHT ABOUT GOING ON WHITE BUT THROUGH DAY HE GEN GOES 3 HRS BETWEEN FEEDS AND AGAIN TAKES ANYWHWERE BETWEEN 4 AND 7 OZ. THE OTHER OPTION IS OF COURSE WEANING. PLEASE ADVISE AS I AM TRULY WRECKED TODAY AND CANT FACE A REPEAT. MAYBE ITS JUST A GROWTH SPURT BUT I DONT KNOW WHEN THEY HAPPEN? I WEANED MY DAUGHTER AT 14 WEEKS BECAUSE 4 YRS AGO YOU DID BUT ITS ALL CHANGED AND ALTHOUGH I DONT WANT TO RUSH INTO ANYTHING SLEEP IS IMPORTANT TO THE SANITY OF OUR HOUSE.

I do think they have a growth spurt about 14 to 16 weeks so maybe just hang on for a couple more days if you can, although I totally understand about the sleep thing as my DS still has a feed in the night at 8 months!!!! Lots of people told me that weaning would help him sleep longer but it hasn't made any difference to him, and since then a number of other mums have said the same. Someone told me that fruit and veg etc and baby rice are not really as filling as milk, which kind of makes sense as I feel fuller after a drink of milk than say eating an apple. Could you try and give him a bigger feed before bed, or giving him a dreamfeed when you go to bed, that way he might go through again?

HE FEEDS ABOUT HALF 5PM AND IS WRETCHED BY 7 HENCE TO BED - AS HE NORM ONLY FED AN HR AND HALF B4 HE ONLY HAS ABOUT 3 OZ AT THIS FEED, NO GO WIHT DREAM FEEDING AS HE JUST REFUSES TO WAKE OR OPEN HIS TRAP! I WILL HANG ON AND SEE IF PASSES - HEIS DUE HIS INJECTIONS ON TUE SO DONT WANT TO MESS ABOUT TILL THESE PASS ANYWAY IN CASE HE REACTS. ZZzzzzZZZzzz

For a long time 5.30am was morning in my house. I think if they go down early in the evening you have to expect an early morning. I still prefer my evening to myself and an early morning than putting him to bed later. We used to do the same, feed, play for an hour and back to bed at 7ish for an hour. I used to go back too.

Weaning should be done gradually so as you can tell what will effect him etc. So even if you did start it wouldnt make any difference. Babies get more calories from milk than food.
As sparkymummy says, try a dream feed around 9/10pm ish or a bigger feed before he goes to sleep. This might get him through the night.
However this time is well known for growth spurts.

yes i agree, with my 1st we did it the other way - staying up late and bringing bed time back but having two we need our evenings now. We have a rule though that if he wakes before quarter to 7 we class it as night and feed again and put back down - how lazy! he sometimes goes of again for couple of hrs and sometimes muters till half 7 when we give it up as the 4 yr old would have been woken by then! Praying for a better night. How long does a spurt last?

have you tried giving more milk through the day, so generally increasing his intake? if you think he's hungry that's the obvious thing to try first.
