Cutting back on milk feeds

I bf my 10 month old, along with solids, and recently found that she drank most milk at 2:30pm feed and little at 7pm and then woke somewhere between 2am and 5am for her first feed of the day. So I cut out the 2:30 feed and now she drinks much more at 7pm but still wakes somewhere between 2 and 5 for her first feed. So she is now just on 2 feeds a day, one at 7pm and the other between 2am and 5am. Apart from inconvenient timing, I am worried she may not be getting enough milk. How many feeds should they be having at 10 months and when is the right time to cut back? From a confused and tired mum!

I bottle fed dd but she had 2 milk feeds at that age - one at bedtime and one in the morning. She had also just recently dropped a mid afternoon feed - so had just gone from 3 to 2 feeds. They are supposed to have the equivalent of 20 ounces of milk per day up till 1 year which includes milk with cereal, dairy products, etc. I would probably try to offer more milk during the day and cut back on the night feed. Is your lo hungry at the night feed or do you think she is just sucking for comfort?

Thanks for replying and so quickly! Reassuring that you dropped to 2 feeds. The good thing about her feed in the early morning is that she feeds for 10 mins and then goes back to sleep until 7am. I know I should try and break this habit if it is one but then she may wake and want to get up at 5am! Maybe I should try and re-introduce a half feed at 2:30. The draw back of bf is never knowing how much they get. Thankyou for your advice.

Have you tried feeding her again for a top up at 7am when she wakes back up.

I will try that. A good idea as quieter and less distractions that the middle of the afternoon. Thanks.
