Can anyone recommend a bib that keeps clothes clean?

Has anyone found a bib or similar that enables your little lovelies to eat without needed a top change afterwards? I bought the Silly Billyz bibs with sleeves but my girls seem really frustrated in them as they can't get food to their mouth easily - which sort of defeats the purpose!

My kitchen is a bit too cold in winter to strip them down to a vest. Can anyone recommend anything? Cheers

I got some from Mothercare with sleeves, and the end of the sleeves were elasticated so they were snug at the wrist- they didn't get in the way.

They covered my DS pretty well. Now if only i hadn't left them in with the washing i'd tumble dried, they wouldn't have turned into a ball of melted plastic stuff

Thanks - will check these out. I think the problem with my girls is short arms! I have to fold the sleeves a few times and it makes the bib bulky.

Anyone else?

Buy a long sleeved top, one size bigger than their actual size.

Put on over clothes.

get one of those huge plastic bibs (soft plastic not the solid ones) from boots.

they're brilliant as they really do cover alot, don't get in babies way and can just be rised off afterwards so you're not drowning in bibs to be washed.

somebodyalso suggested getting a few cheap long sleeved tops from primak and using those, seems like a good idea

lol WT, too slow!

I found Asda sold a sort of towelling sleeve one with a plastic backing front . It fits my dd great (11mths) and sleeves are soft she has been wearing it from 8 months. The Boots version have to tie at the back as its too big and rollup sleeves and Matalan one has died. Washes with other stuff and comes up great.
I had same problem with full on plastic one but will be great when she is bigger.

I bought the Mothercare ones 2 pack for £6, the sleeves are long and elasticated at the bottom but are made of cotton, the main part of the bib is again cotton but plastic backed.

They don't tumble which is a bit of a faff (yeah like putting a bib on the radiator is a hassel )and I am definitely buying some more as he gets very messy, my son refuses to be spoon fed anything except jelly and the old favourite petit filou!! He is almost 9 months and hand feeds or I pass him a spoon.

Bibs are very comfortable and soft.

another vote for the mothercare ones -

deaconblue · 11/02/2007 19:24

Just bought an enormous one from Mothercare which looks like a painting overall or like he's helping disinfect a Bernard Matthews farm. It's plastic, covers the arms and down to his knees and is easy to wipe. I think they were £4 each. turquoise and orange (if I wasn't crap I would do a link for you )

lower your standards

dcb · 17/02/2007 17:14

i do use a standard bib but don't mind her getting food everywhere really - she would scream the house down if i tried to put on anything with sleeves. does anyone else just leave their los in food stained clothes all day or am i a bad mother? as long as they aren't wet they stay on.

AitchTwoOh · 17/02/2007 20:06

i have tried loads of bibs but i generally end off tying one of the zillions of muslins we seem to own round her neck. occasionally she'll concede to letting me put a pelican bib on top of it. it's no coincidence that dd gets 'cleaner' food for lunch than she does for dinner, when we often break out the tomato sauces.

glamourbadger · 18/02/2007 13:45

Thanks for the suggestions. The larger top idea is actually a great one - and a good use for some of those dodgy Christmas presents from Grandma!

How do some mums keep their babies so clean? Mine are always covered in a crusty layer of vegetable matter and despite soaking in Napisan everything is stained with tomato. They love feeding themselves which I try to encourage but just feel so scuzzy when I peel them out of the buggy at baby groups .

I give "cleaner" foods at lunch time, then take his top off for tea if it's really messy!
