Hi everyone,

I have just joined mumsnet and thought I would say hi!

I have been BLW my ds George for 2.5 months is now and it is going really well . I have even set up a blog all about our experiences www.myBLWexperiences.blogspot.com if anyone wants to have a look.

I am looking forward to being able to meet other BLWing mums. I am always interested in what others are doing breakfast wise as George seems to hate all cereal! lol.

anyway, hope to chat more soon.

love

hi mel. how old is your ds george? have recently started weaning my dd who is 5 1/2 months. havent really looked into blw yet, but suppose you could call what i'm doing that?
will have a look on your blog and report back soon. don't know about brekkie ideas at mo sorry, will have a think

tibsy · 08/02/2007 09:50

sorry mel, misunderstood concept of blw a bit... duh!!!! like the ideas behind it but mine is a little small for that yet although she enjoys chewing (read, gumming!) at an apple, banana and have tried a few other things too. will maybe give it a go when shes older. seems interesting good luck
p.s have you tried scrambled eggs, if not allergic?

Melh27 · 08/02/2007 18:07

George is now 8.5 months, and we started BLW when he was 24 weeks.

I have tried him on omlettes, but not yet on scrambled eggs. Maybe I will give that a go!

He tends to have a banana and some toast most days! Or a banana and a pear....or a banana and whatever I can find lol

If you are planning on trying blw then i would totally recommend it, i think it was one of my best decisions so far!

love

Hi Mel - I recognise you from the yahoo group - welcome to MN.

At the moment dd (1 today) tends to have either raisin wheats or porridge.

She does like crumpets though, which would be ok for breakfast (though watch the salt content).

Dd doesn't really do toast and always squishes banana up instead of eating it, so I guess there's a bit of different horses for different courses.

Mel - hope you don't mind me saying this, but your blog is incredibly difficult to read in those colours - made my eyes go funny in seconds so I've had to stop. Is it possible to change it to more reader friendly colours?

AitchTwoOh · 08/02/2007 23:48

you know that the link to my blog on yours still goes to babyleadweaning.com, don't you?
I must get a folder together with everyone's blogs on my site...

Melh27 · 09/02/2007 18:33

I have tried the raisin wheats, but i just cannot get the milk thing right! He did eat a few the other day, but if they get too soggy then he won't entertain them. I tried them dry, no good either. He is very particular about his cereal - lol!

Will have a go at the porridge, could end in tears though as I have a tendancy to burn anything with milk in to the pan!

Sorry the colours of the blog made your eyes go funny, your the 1st report of that tbh!

Aitch - didn't realise it was you! I did have all the blog saying "lead" instead of "led" for weeks...no idea what came over me - I used to be an intelligent woman! . Thought I had changed them all, will do yours now!

ps - am struggling to navigate a bit, what is the best way to find BLW posts, & how do I know if they are active etc? Sorry for dumb questions!

just use 'active conversations' (up above) for general things and then go directly to the topics (such as weaning) that interest you. the name and time of the last post is on the list so you can see if there's a debate raging.

AitchTwoOh · 09/02/2007 19:42

i haven't tried the raisin wheats, but i have used mini shredded wheat (or your nearest non-nestle alternative). i put barely a splash into the bottom of a bowl, fling in some cereal and then turn them over so that the milk soaks in. ten secs in the microwave and there's no milk left in the bowl but the cereal isn't too soggy iykwim?

CanSleepWontStarve · 09/02/2007 21:26

Maybe everyone else is too polite to say Mel .

Oh Aitch I checked btw, and the raisin wheats are Kelloggs rather than Nestle.

I also nuke the rw in the microwave with the milk on. 20 rw a good dousing in milk and 30 secs on high.

AitchTwoOh · 09/02/2007 21:30

i'm going to try them, then. do they have added sugar?

CanSleepWontStarve · 09/02/2007 21:41

Just checked - 75% shredded wholewheat, 23% raisins, then glycerine and a load of vitamins. So sort of in the glycerine, but it seems to not be bad sugar if you look here .
