dd is 23 weeks and is currently showing no interest in food. we are going on holiday for 10 days when she is 27 weeks -will it harm her if i leave weaning till we come back?

any advice welcomed!

My dd2 didn't have anything other than breastmilk until she was 12 months (her choice!) and she is now 3.6 and very happy and healthy.

No, it won't hurt her. Milk should be her major source of calories for a while yet, so delaying for a couple of weeks won't be a problem.

not in the slightest, enjoy your holiday.

She'll be absolutely fine! But tbh as you've waited til the right age, she could quite easily be offered a few bits and bobs to nibble on while you're on holiday. Like steamed veg or some soft fruit. Pureeing stuff is really only for babies who were weaned early, by 6 months babies can handle finger food because theis digestive system is more mature and they can sit better.

Have a google for Baby Led Weaning (BLW) which will give you a few ideas. Aitch on here has a BLW blog too which is v helpful.

It's fun fun fun from here on in! Have a grat holiday!

Ah - there's Aitch now!

Won't hurt her in the slightest.
Weaning ages are just a guide, not rules

well my 7.5 stone 5ft 3 size 7 shoe 13 yr old ds is showing no negative side effects from not eating until he was well over 29 wks so reckon you're ok

olivo · 06/02/2007 16:53

wow- thank you all for your fast responses! i have been thinking about BLW so will check out Aitch's site. a few eyebrows were raised with my friends when i mentioned this but they all started weaning at 4 or 5 months so it possibly seems extreme to them!
