Help - baby prefers the jars to my food!

I started weaning at 5 months, ds is now 8 months. He loves his breakfast, ready brek or oatabix, but he just refuses my home cooked food. So I end up feeding him jars which he'll eat no worries. I am trying to break the cycle, but it's so hard, do you let them go hungry so he will eventually eat my food? Seems a bit cruel....
I have followed recipes, which is easy for me as i'm a chef by trade, but no joy.
Has anyone had similar experiences and overcome them? Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks icod. I have tried mixing it....he was on to me from the momment he tasted it!

I'll keep trying that one......failing that I think I might try giving him a few more bits of finger food....follow the BLWers !

LOL. Bloody babies.

Give him your food in the jars.

my ds prefers jars to my lovingly homecooked food too! I try not to take it personally but it is annoying when you spend ages cooking something and they prefer a jar of hipp, I think it may be the texture - the jars are much soggier.

Have you tasted the jars - they are yuk - my food is much nicer so there

Sorry that was not very helpful was it!

agree with cod - put homemade food in jar when he's not looking, serve at room temp and shovel in

if he can tell the difference I'll be astounded

What's the problem? Save yourself a gitter and feed him jars.

Things change a lot from 8 months. Soon you'll be giving him chunks of food rather than mashed stuff anyway and chances are he'll love helping himself to a chunk of potato, fish finger or whatever.

You must give him quite a few jars anyway for him to see them as the norm. My kids were like this. It'll all sort itself out in a few months as you move away from mush.

Ah yeah - finger foods, that's the term

Agreed with others - he'll be chowing down on roast dinner any minute so don't worry about it. Despite all the you-must-do-it-yourself propaganda, the various organic ranges (Hipp, C&G, even Heinz Organic) are healthy and not that much more expensive than the standard babyfood ranges. If you have a freezer full of lovingly-pureed veg, hang onto it to thicken home made soups with in a month or two.
