Baby waking since weaning
Hi all

I just need a bit of advice, I will go over my DDs routine but basically she's always slept through since being 4 weeks old, I've never had an issue with her waking in the night. I started weaning her two weeks ago. She's 23 weeks.

I started on one meal a day, building up to 2 then to 3.

This is her usual routine, she is bottle fed.

7am - 6oz milk

9am - breakfast - usually baby rice with banana followed by 3oz milk

12pm/1pm - Lunch - Veg purée followed by fruit purée. She will take some water.

2pm/2.30pm - 5oz milk

4pm/4.30pm - Tea - again Veg purée followed by fruit purée and water. I have been offering a bottle after but the last few days she's not been taking it.

7pm - 6oz bottle but she never drinks it all. Usually 4oz or 5oz.
Then she goes to bed.

She has started waking at 4am. I persist with her and keep going putting her dummy back in etc, it could go on for an hour where she is just tossing and turning and moaning. Then I eventually give in and give her a bottle and she will take about 5oz and then go back to sleep until 7am.

She is teething and has been for about 2 months but it doesn't really bother her.

She's not much for napping in the day. She will have 3 naps a day which are 30-40 minutes tops.

My question is, she seems to be waking due to hunger and I don't know why, is she not taking enough in the day?

Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

I've tried, She just won't go back to sleep if I don't. Maybe I just need to persist a bit more. It can go on for an hour and I just give up. Yes your lucky. It's just a bit of a culture shock for me as she's always been a good sleeper, I need to get myself to bed earlier haha.

I gave her some teething gel tonight. Is there any recommendations on which one? I give her the baby's bonjella.

Milk should always be given before solids. That would probably help as a first thing to try.

Maybe try milk in a small glass? Mine didn't use a bottle , but would take milk from a small glass when Dh was alone with them. I think it's easier if teeth hurt

Yeah lack of sleep is a bitch. I wasn't lucky with ds1 tho. He was a nightmare to feed. But even he didn't want food when he woke at night. Had a few sucks and that was it. Hence my view that teeth are the root (ha ha) of all evil!! But yours does sound like she's hungry. Yeah early nights. Aaaaagh it's 9:15! Good luck Grin

Yeh I could try using a glass. She was crying a little when having her bottle tonight, which I think was her teeth. Oh no, I can imagine, that sounds frustrating. I'm sure I'll still be up at 11pm and regretting it tomorrow haha Thank you.

I could have written your post!

My ds slept through all night from about 8 weeks and then recently started waking at around 2/3 o'clock. The only way to settle him was to give a bottle, but that would then throw out his routine for the day!
We thought could be teeth but it didn't cause any problems during the day so I wasn't convinced.

This was all a few weeks back, around the time the nights were really hot... Showing 24-26 degrees on his bedroom thermometer, so we dressed him accordingly! In just a vest or just in a onesie as we were worried about him over heating. We soon realised he must be waking due to getting a bit cold, then thinking ooo I'm hungry!
If that makes sense!

Basically, could something else be waking her up? Then once she's awake she then wants feeding since its been a good while since she was last fed.
Since putting our ds back in a gro bag he sleeps through 90% of the time.

You know what when it first started (her waking up) I thought it was because she was cold. Our house is very open and we rarely close doors, so we started to close the bedroom door this last week. I've not really noticed her being cold the last few nights. She always sleeps with her sleepbag and depending on the temperature I sometimes put a blanket over the top when we go to bed. I'm going to try and not feed her when she wakes tomorrow and see if she eventually goes back off. I will pay a bit more attention to what could possibly be bothering her other than being hungry.
