The Salt issue again!

Can someone tell me again what the daily salt intake limit is? DD 6mths (& 1 wk!), doing BLW and going v well. Was going to give her some of our lunch (veggie pasta in cheese sauce) but of course EVERYTHING has salt in it! Has fruit & toast for brekkie. Do u all just go along the lines of "as long as no extra salt added by us, and considering bubs takes in relatively small amount of food, don't stress it!". I assume people don't go as far as making their own pasta!!!

I would personally not give a 6 month old adult food.
I used to blend up vegetables, mash etc. Pasta I would make my own sauce without salt.

You're right, just don't add salt, and be careful of stocks which ca have a lot of salt in them. Sounds like your dd is doing very well with the BLW!

SoupDragon · 28/01/2007 14:35

Provided you're not using standard stock cubes or packet sauces or adding salt when cooking etc you should be fine.

Thanks all for replying so quickly! I use salt free butter and have made my own veg stock with no salt.
Blossomhill, i assume you're not doing BLW if you wouldn't give 6 mth old adult food? What are vegetables if not adult food????

I would be careful with bread and cheese though as both are quite high in salt. I think I remember Dizzybint saying something about only giving her BLweaned baby a certain amount of bread per day.

NAB3 · 28/01/2007 16:57

Mine still don't have salt and they are 5, 3 and 1. I def wouldn't give a 6 month old something with salt in it.

DizzyBint · 28/01/2007 17:42

hello yes. i try to only give dd bread once a day due to salt content, it's shop bought. so if i give toast for breakfast we wouldn't have sandwiches later.

and yes unsalted butter. you're fine with basically normal food just don't add salt. if you were making a sauce or a casserole or whatever you just don't add salt.

Add herbs for more flavour.

And can anyone remember the name of the low salt Marmite substitute? I think someone said you can get it from Holland & Barratt??
