emkana · 13/01/2007 20:24

That's it really! Any good suggestions anybody?

OP posts:
colditz · 13/01/2007 20:25

cheerios? Banana? cheese on toast?

laundrylover · 13/01/2007 20:50

Porridge pancakes off BLW site were good for us but around 8 months we switched to half a weetabix and some ready brek made up with cow's milk and dumped on the tray and DD2 eats it all with her hands.

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 13/01/2007 20:58

eggy bread, shredded wheat minis (not made by nestle if you can find them) with a splash of milk to soften them. great finger food. dd often has fruit as well (and just as often has frozen peas and leftovers from whatever we had the night before...)

laundrylover · 13/01/2007 21:09

Aitch, who makes non nestle shredded wheat minis then? They sound like a good idea.

Also thought of stuff on toast like cream cheese or just butter...mmmmmm....just started slimming world so can't eat the rest of the slice.

littleducks · 13/01/2007 21:14

Aitch-you make her eat the peas frozen
frittatta/tortilla/spanish omlette if your onto eggs now
weetabix/shredded wheat
pancakes (blueberry ones?)

LaDiDaDi · 13/01/2007 21:14

Fingers of toast and fruit here but those wheat minis sound like a good idea.

laundrylover · 13/01/2007 21:25

My DD1, nearly 3, loves frozen peas still frozen!

BTW have you seen the new Yeo Valley yogurts in tubes? You can freeze them or they get the hang of sucking them out the corner really quickly- much less messy than normal yog and we gave up on the sugar free stuff as it's too runny.

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 13/01/2007 21:26

littleducks, yes, she LOVES them. and i love them too. they melt incredibly quickly on the tongue so i don't feel they pose a choke risk (well, not more than everthing else) and she likes the cool on her sore gums.
PLUS, and i cannot stress that this is my BEST THING ever. you can put frozen peas in any dinner and they immediately cool it down to baby level for you. (or do as i do, and keep baby bowls in the freezer).
would you mind having a search on the blog for shredded wheat, as a few people came on and said where the non nestle ones were from and i can't remember exactly as it was quite involved (apart from M&S, i remember them...)
i meant to say, splash of milk and then 5 secs in the microwave as it helps them soften a bit.

CanStarveWillStarve · 13/01/2007 21:33

Aitch - we've been giving dd raisin wheats (Nestle I'm afraid). I guess they are the same size as your ones. Can you give me an idea of how many your dd eats at one sitting? Am obsessing about quantities at the moment!

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 13/01/2007 21:35

it COMPLETELY depends. three if she's got sore teeth, fifteen if she's ravenous. is there a reason that you're obsessing? it's tricky not to, isn't it? i just stick my fingers in my ears and go la la la when the bad thoughts come...

oh, and i meant to say that im going to investigate oatibix as well. or are they nestle too? bloody nestle.

Donbean · 13/01/2007 21:43

Ready breck
mashed bananas or a whole banana to eat in squishy mess
weetabix, i used to do just quater with warm milk
toast soldiurs
just slices of bread and butter
crumpets cut into soldiurs, my ds DEVOURED them
cant think what else.....

CanStarveWillStarve · 13/01/2007 21:43

The mini oatibix have crap added, unlike the full size ones. Was rather disappointed by this. Not sure who makes them.

Feel good now. DD ate 11 the last 2 days and 15 today .

Probably easier to point you to this thread than to get into why I'm obsessing here. Making a concerted effort to cut down the milk and increase the solids at the moment.

littleducks · 13/01/2007 21:56

Aitch, i seem to remember that the shredded wheat idea was mine (copyright emoticon) although i refused to pay extra for 'mini' when you can break them up in fact i have proof here can i finally get a mention on the blog (not that i have been trying to get ont othere for ages or anything!!! )

emkana- mashed banana on toast, fruit salad,

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 13/01/2007 22:01

hey! i wrote a really fulsome answer on that thread and it isn't there... ffs please don't tell me i'll have to write it out again...

would it help if i tell you that she sounds a lot like my DD?

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 13/01/2007 22:03
CanStarveWillStarve · 13/01/2007 22:05

Was that to me Aitch? Yes, go on, write it all out again. I always had the impression that your dd was a dream at feeding (and everything else)!!

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 13/01/2007 22:11

well she is pretty good at feeding but i have said many times that she likes to drop her food off the highchair and that her appetite is a VERY moveable feast. and she is, to be fair, a good sleeper, even if her day time naps are bonkers. (nothing from 7am until falling asleep half-lunatic with tiredness at 4.30pm today and yesterday!)

but i don't suppose that i talk about things that aren't strictly feeding on the blog. i'll get back to you about everything, cos i must do some work now, but for the record i cannot change my daughter's nappy on my own if she's done a poo and is feeling unco-operative. if i am on my own and she's being testy i have to throw her in the shower. just to give you an idea of how headstrong she is...

CanStarveWillStarve · 13/01/2007 22:14

Look forward to hearing more!

CanStarveWillStarve · 13/01/2007 22:16

Shreddies is another one that is manageable by hand too, as long as you can get over the fact that there's a little added sugar. Just don't add the milk too far in advance, or they turn to mush.

Oh, and clean up quickly afterwards, dried on shreddie is a bugger to get off things!

laundrylover · 13/01/2007 22:16

Aitch do you reckon it's 'cos she's a celeb baby??

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 13/01/2007 22:56

what, as in 'i'm a celebrity baby get me shite off here?'

emkana · 13/01/2007 23:55

Thanks for the suggestions!

Can somebody remind me how to do those porridge pancakes? Pretty please?

And isn't there an issue with no gluten before 12 months of age, or is it before 6 months of age?

OP posts:
colditz · 13/01/2007 23:57

I am pretty sure it is 6 months unless there is ceoliacs in th family

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 14/01/2007 00:46

do a search on www.babyledweaning.com for the pancakes. and colditz is right about the gluten. having said that, there is gluten in oats but not the upset the coeliac-y types stuff.

AitchTwoOh · 14/01/2007 02:02

and littleducks, if you do a search for shredded wheat you will see that i have amended my post slightly.
