  1. BF poo is quite nice on the grand scale of poo, while weaned poo is gross

[shallow, me?]

sunnywong · 11/01/2007 13:33

It prevents them from becoming three headed cobras
Cobrii?

Munz · 11/01/2007 13:35
  1. straight onto finger foods, sooo much easier than faffing with purees. (wish i'd done BLW sooner!)
fishie · 11/01/2007 13:38

they can eat the same food as you

harpsichordcarrier · 11/01/2007 13:42

you can be sure that the baby's gut lining is ready for solid food and therefore you are not increasing any risks re food intolerances and allergies.

straight onto self feeding means you won't have to faff around with little jars and pots of mush when you go out

tassis · 11/01/2007 14:58

anyone else?

on top of gut health, the poo argument is a pretty strong one..

motherinferior · 11/01/2007 15:32

You don't have to faff around with f8cking ice trays of tiny bits of puree which fall over the kitchen floor when you give up and whack the tray to get the buggers out and reduce you to pathetic weeping as you see your careful organic work splayed over a surface which is so far from sterile you canNOT resuscitate the damn things.

Also your baby is less likely to look at you with wearisome disgust and spit out your nipple.

motherinferior · 11/01/2007 15:33

Also it really really REALLY annoys health visitors, which is likely to be the best fun you're capable of at a few months post-partum.

GingGangGooley · 11/01/2007 18:02
  1. baby physically prepared for it, stomachs are ready and they can feed themselves.
  1. they can eat what you eat
  1. no pureeing yawn how boring
  1. mess is fun!

5.tongue thrust reflex has gone

  1. poo is defo a good argument

erm let you know if i can think of more but there is loads!

nothercules · 11/01/2007 18:51

They can sit to eat as they should rather than working out how to feed a baby on a slant.

tassis · 11/01/2007 20:25

yes, I'd forgotten the change in poo - yuck

MI - I'm loving your reasons.

Thanks everyone!

OP posts:
DizzyBint · 11/01/2007 20:28

to piss off the MIL, and then make her wow when baby feeds herself.

colditz · 11/01/2007 20:34

You can dump a load of steamed broccoli and cauliflower florets in front of this tiny bald baby, and smug at how impressed and agag everyone is when baby picks them up by the stalks and rams them down his throat so fast they barely touch the sides.

DizzyBint · 11/01/2007 20:35

and you can go to a cafe with baby and just order normal food for her, no need to cart mush about and fret about warming it up etc etc blah balh.

they feed themselves at that age, leaving you both hands free for typing on MN.

Twinklemegan · 11/01/2007 22:19

Am I the only one on MN who doesn't mind pureeing??

fishie · 11/01/2007 22:26

you can give them cheese sandwich in debenhams cafe and everyone will coo a lot. (then they will throw it on floor and scream because they hate shopping)

fennel · 12/01/2007 10:11

I thought it was good for babies to eat dirt and non-sterile stuff? organic and natural and all that. Builds up their immune systems. etc.

once they're crawling they'll eat all sorts off the floor anyway.

paranoidmother · 12/01/2007 10:18

The only problem I can see with finger foods is that your baby never gets use to using a spoon or having soup or anything like that because they can't pick it up with their fingers.
My daughter loved soup when she was about 1yr but her friend who had finger food won't use a spoon and has nothing like soup etc to eat. All his food must be finger size and he won't use cutlery either as not use to it. Pain to hae to limit your meals, cut it into the right size etc I think.

paranoidmother · 12/01/2007 10:19

Meant to say I weaned daughter at 4 1/2 months and she's not over weight and she was ready for it.
