My baby is 22 weeks and has started solids. At present I am sterilising all bowls, spoons, ice cubes trays etc. When can this stop?

i started weaning at 26 weeks, didn't sterilise anything, but then i didn't use bowls, spoons or ice cube trays. but if i had i don't think i would have sterilised them. does everything go through the dishwasher?

I don't sterilise anything. DS2 is 26w. I have only ever sterilised my breast pump. If the baby has toys off the floor or similar, then it's probably not worth sterilising. Dishwashing is the same as sterilising (don't add salt to the dishwasher though). Otherwise, v.hot water, well washed & rinsed and you should be fine.

I sterilised everything to start with - would have sterilised the cooker if I had the facility. Quickly realised all finger food would be thrown on the floor at least 6 times, rubbed in hair, around highchair, etc so gave up! The only thing I still sterilise are bottles and dummies.

I never sterilised any of either of my kids weaning stuff. I only sterilised bottles for 6 months.

I don't sterilise anything to do with his food, only his bottles.

GingGangGooley · 11/01/2007 18:05

Sterilising is over-rated. did you know they don't even sell sterilisers in most countries including the US. They just wash up with hot soapy water.

i only sterilise bottles.

we don't use spoons either! can't fit the highchair tray in the steriliser!

When I realised how long he spends with unsterilised toys in his mouth, I stopped sterilising all feeding equipment apart from bottles and teats.
