Is it to do with allergies, or the texture?

In my wisdom i made bolognese last night, leaving out the salt and bacon, then realised afterwards that there's obviously tomotoes in it (doh)

DS hasn't turned orange or exploded, but i'm guessing i should avoid them in cooking again? (He's a little over 6 1/2 mths)

I think its more to do with allergies but if your lo was ok with them I dont see it being a problem in giving them again. You can pretty much give anything after 6 months except whole nuts, honey, etc

funnypeculiar · 09/01/2007 11:42

Think they're quite allogenic - know a few los with excma who get aggravated by tomato...

Kelly1978 · 09/01/2007 11:45

I knwo somebody whose little one has behavoural issues aggravated by tomatoes too. It is an allergy risk, but your little one doesnt seem to have any problems and I never even thought about it when weaning my children.

There's no reason at all not to give tomatoes to a baby once you start weaning - why would you think differently?

Yes some babies do have a bit of a reaction to them, but it's usually just a mild red rash where they have contacted the skin, and nothing to worry about.

DetentionGrrrl · 09/01/2007 12:34

i heard tomatoes were a no-no, along with eggs.

Both mine used to get hideous nappy rash if they ate raw tomatoes at all, or too much cooked tomato sauce.

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 09/01/2007 12:40

i gave dd tomato saucey things from the beginning, but i held off from giving her raw. i think i was just being cautious, though.

CanSleepWellSometimes · 09/01/2007 12:49

Eggs are fine from 6 months too! Again, there's a chance that he could be allergic (usually to the white rather than the yolk), but no reason not to try!

nailpolish · 09/01/2007 12:50

tomatoes and eggs are pretty much in most things !

dd's here were weaned on scrambled eggs, pasta and tomato sauce!

nailpolish · 09/01/2007 12:51

er, not all at once tho..

notsogummyanymore · 09/01/2007 12:57

mmm that sounds quite nice actually...

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 09/01/2007 13:05

again i was cautious with eggs, just waited til she was about nine months, gave her some yolk with no ill effects, then she was onto the hard stuff over the next few weeks. my friend's wee boy started on eggs earlier, he did have an allergic reaction and it had to be rushed to hospital as his throat closed up. i suppose i just wanted her to be more robust, iykwim, if she was going to have an allergic reaction? but that wasn't really based on anything other than me and what i felt...

DizzyBint · 09/01/2007 13:09

stuff about egg allergies

i was cautious, dd seems fine with them. the link is quite interseting.

DetentionGrrrl · 09/01/2007 13:25

thanks Dizzy...i think i'll hold off on eggs for a bit just incase

DS seems happy after the bolognese...and it was worth it for the stained face and pasta caked hands. He loved it!
