It is so great

just put a few bits and pieces of what the family is having on the highchair tray and that's it, I wish I had known about this when I had my first two.

I watch in amazement as ds2 (not quite 6 months - don't shoot me ) feeds himself florets of brocolli (broccolli/broccoli? I used to be able to spell ), slices of apple and much much more. He even gets lumps in his mouth and chews - I never knew this was possible in such young babies.

He is so into the whole food thing - he hasn't rejected a single taste yet

you lucky cow. shut up.

dd gagged on lumps till she was 13 months. no chance of blw before that. though she did real good at shovelling porridge into her face.

Enid · 05/01/2007 22:02

yeah

baby led weaning is fab

until they get to 4 and then don't like 'gristly bits' or 'slimy bits'

Spidermama · 05/01/2007 22:05

I agree it works really well. It takes the stress out of mealtimes and allows them to experiment. There's not so much fannying around with purees either. Excellent.

NappiesGalore · 05/01/2007 22:07

ah, but its not babyled weaning byt he time theyre 4 - its toddler led piss-mum-off-every-mealtime

actually, does 4 still qualify as toddler? what the hell is 4?

Wallace · 05/01/2007 22:09

Ah yes, at the moment he does eat better than my 7 year old...

It is good you can shove a whole load of food in front of them and actually eat your dinner whilst it's still hot. DD2 is a master of BLW. Enjoy it DD1 (2 1/2) says everything is disgusting, pushes her plate away after 2 mouthfuls, demands ice cream then (her latest and very funny) trick is to pretend she's asleep. Meanwhile DD2 just shovels food away quite happily.

NappiesGalore · 05/01/2007 22:31

hi Sweetkitty - good to 'see' you x

Wallace · 06/01/2007 11:00

Where did the rest of my title go?

I was sort of hoping that BLW would mean they don't get so fussy later, but I guess not!

lol wallace..... i sit watching ds eat in utter amazement. he just has chunks of our dinner and gobbles it up.

i just wish i'd known about it when dd was tiny and maybe we wouldn't have so many problems with her eating

DizzyBint · 06/01/2007 11:11

dd's 7 months. gave her noodles last night for tea. i was amazed how she handled them. screwed a few up into a ball, shoved them in her mouth then actually sucked in the strangly bits. when she got tired of sucking she'd go 'ppfah' and let the straglers go. clever baby! she did also enjoy the noise they made as she slapped them on her head..ahem.

Munz · 06/01/2007 11:12

yep love it here as well - sooo much easier than purees!

NotAnOtter · 06/01/2007 11:13

nappies!

Fab - did you read my tips!

Skyler · 06/01/2007 11:40

Nappies - I think 4 yo's are classed as 'Pre-schoolers'

NappiesGalore · 06/01/2007 14:01

ah yes, preschoolers. thanks skyler

notanO - what tips?? what have i missed?

SoupDragon · 06/01/2007 14:26

Unfortunately it doesn't work with every child, I can assure you.

O2BMe · 09/01/2007 00:30

My DS is 8 mths and I've just found out about BLW. Have tried different foods but with little success. Had to go ahead and puree them before DS would eat.

Did I leave it too late? Have I been pureeing too long? The only thing DS liked to suck on is toast. Loved the idea but I think I'm stuck with pureeing a little longer

Just a bit worried I've created a rod for my own back and can see myself still pureeing food when DS is 6 or worse.

ILoveDolly · 09/01/2007 00:40

hey o2bme don't worry i'm sure 8m is still fine! blw is for everyone, anytime, just persevere with offering easy to eat bits - my dd had a bit of a mixture of puree and finger foods at first then graduated to more challenging finger foods. try pear adn avocado slices, canned mandarin, cheddar cheese, anything really and after your baby has grasped the idea of chewing he will be more confident with the blw thang.

hotpot · 09/01/2007 19:13

My little chap makes a gurning face and seems to just suck everything, but happy to try anything bless him

Although it is BLW it is me doing the feeding, everything else goes in his mouth, toes, toes with socks on, every toy he picks off the floor and can happily put his own spoon in his mouth but seems somehow to think that he is born to royalty or something as refuses to actually feed himself food.

Maybe it is a boy thing or just the fact I have an almost 8 month pampered prince. DS1 has started wanting to be fed and he is 3 1/2!!!

An no, I didn't wean early he was 6 months so no real spoon feeding
