Is there any reason why DS can't have a quorn sausage? (he's 6 1/2 mths and managed chicken fine)

I seem to remember that quorn wasnt recommended as a baby food, think it was high salt content or something like that will check for you later, but im pretty sure it wasnt due to consistency.

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 02/01/2007 13:06

i don't know anything about quorn, it's not something i eat. like littleducks, i'd be concerned about salt. what does the label say?

oh, the only other thing is that if it's minced quorn my dd couldn't manage meatballs etc for a few months as they broke up to much and made her gag like crazy. so we stuck to lumps of meat until she got better at chewing.

DizzyBint · 02/01/2007 13:12

not sure, we don't eat it either. what's in it? is it based on mushroom or something? it's not soya is it?

DetentionGrrrl · 02/01/2007 15:01

It's mushroom protein, not soya. Low fat, packet says it's sodium content is 0.4%.

Hiya

Quorn shouldn't form a large part of the diet of under 3 year olds as it's very filling but with few calories so can cause slow weight gain/growth. It's perfectly safe for babies in small quantities and Alfie often eats Quorn (he's 9 months) The Quorn website explains this - can't recall address but you can google it.

Here it is!

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 02/01/2007 15:25

what do you do with it, alice? i've had it before and never really saw the point of it. i think it was some sort of lemon pepper 'fillet' of quorn... tasted of lemon, pepper and plastic as i recall.

Blackalice · 02/01/2007 15:46

I use it instead of meat in things like curries, spag bol, stir fries etc. I also have Quorn sausages or burgers occasionally.

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 02/01/2007 15:48

but how do you give it flavour? am genuinely interested, btw.

Blackalice · 02/01/2007 15:51

It takes up the flavour of the sauce you cook it in which is why I put it in things like curries or spag bol with plenty of garlic etc. It doesn't taste of much on it's own.

DetentionGrrrl · 02/01/2007 16:20

Thanks blackalice...it won't be large part of DS's diet, just thought he might like a try.

Tried it yesterday. He seemed to like the taste, but he gagged a bit too much for my liking, so i think i'll try it again in a few weeks.
