Getting DS to take a beaker / cup. How?

DS is almost 6 1/2 mths old, BLW'd and has 2 teeth already, so am keen to get him onto a beaker / cup with handles. Does anyone have any tips, or particular brands etc? Have tried just letting him play with one with some milk in, he lifted it to his mouth, then tossed it

I let my DS play with a sippy cup of water for a while. We tried the Avent bottles with the sippy cup spout & then a Tommee Tippee cup. He refused to drink from them (although loved waving them around & throwing them on the floor) until I resorted to very dilute apple juice. I only did that a couple of times - maybe 20mls or so til he got the idea. Then he had milk. He never drank much from them though and now uses a cup with a straw.

best one to try is the tommee tippee first cup as it has not got a non-spill valve and is easy to use. It is also cheap and widely available:

We used the avent magic beaker with the soft spout. On the advice of a friend we let our lo play with the empty beaker for a couple of days before putting water/juice in and offering it to him. He took to it straight away hth

ds 7 1/2 month, he played with doidy cup from about 5 mo (nothing in it at first then small amount of water - easier to clean up!) he drank only small amount from it and refused tommee tippee, tried tommee tippee again a week ago as he was just putting hands in cup and playing and he loved it - only tried water so far tho

we had terrible trouble with this with dd. she's 7 months now. has avent magic spouts for milk now, and doidy cup for water with meals. i hold the bottom of the doidy whil she holds the handle. only put a teeny tiny bit in it til she gets used to doing it all herself. i know she could do the avent herself, but i'm keen to keep milk and water very different, and to get her used to an open cup. she holds the avent magic bottles herself with handles.

I just fill a cup with water, and hold it to his mouth. He now holds it abit himself (me still holding the bottom!) and guides it to his mouth and slurps some water up. He's 9 months now, so im quite happy with how it's going. Spillage is getting less. Was everywhere first few weeks! If I let him to it himself, he'd just throw the cup around.

Also having a nightmare with this - have just ordered a Doidy - will report back when it arrives.
