Is this ok for babies? My dd is 6months.

Mince is more than ok! My 2 started solids at 4 months and by the time they were 6 mths were on lumps, like mince. If your little one isn't on to lumps yet then you can puree it. Mince is a good source of iron, which they need to start taking in once they turn 6mths as the stores they got from mum are used up. It's also cheap, versatile and freezes well. Go ahead with it and don't worry! Good luck with the weaning.

How would you cook it?

Shepherds pie, bolognese, that type of thing. I use marigold swiss vegetable bouillon powder, the reduced salt one, because noone with kids has the time to make up stock these days (unless it's a special occasion!). Potato doesn't puree though, so it needs to be mashed or use an electric whisk to make it really smooth.
I got Annabel Karmels baby and toddler meal planner for a present when I was pregnant and it is really good, there are a couple of mince recipes in there. If you want I can type you out a couple of recipes ds likes?

Thanks for that. I tried mince and tomatoes today. Think dd did not think much of lumps but seemed to like flavour.

Glad she liked it! The lumps take a bit of getting used to, but the sooner you start the better for the long run. If they are not on lumpy food as they get towards 9mths they may become fussy eaters. Also try other types of mince, like turkey and lamb to vary the flavours. You can even start to feed her food you cook for yourself as long as you don't add salt, a little is fine (in stock or butter), just don't pour a load in. Have fun!
