DD is now 23 weeks and has been on fruit and veg purees for a while, She is coming up to 6mths and we can try gluten products, meat, and dairy now. Was wondering if anyone had tips on what foods to have first and if there were any foods you dp had any particular success with?

DS is a 6 month old vegetarian baby. he likes porridge, cheese, bread, fromage frais, mashed potatoes along with most mashed fruit and veg. the only thing he didn't like so far was papaya.

I'm in the same position, and we've tried toast this week- he loves it! (we're trying a sort of BLW approach, with some purees) He also loves porridge- we give him a spoon too, and he tries to feed himself. We're trying a bit of chicken next week. I'm trying one thing a week to make sure we can detect any reactions etc.

Seems like a good approach. What are you doing with the chicken? That was one I thought about introducing this week.

Just shredded chicken into small bits and fed it to him, he helps it along with his thumb!! He also ate a crumpet with cream cheese.

Should point out that I have tried BLW but my little one seems to put everything in his mouth except food! Tried him with a mini rusk (I know they are full of sugar) but just to try to get him to gum on that.

Pasta is good, in a sauce - either spoon fed or with their own hands. I am feeding my DS2 in the kitchen so the floor and units are wipable should he feel the need to throw food, (I am also quite a chilled laid back person)

Also any veges that you cook for your own tea - so softened peppers, courgette, carrots, anything that mushes in your fingers really. Good Luck

have you looked at the babyledweaning blog/website? lots of tips there.

my 10mo now eats anything we do, really. have been giving him food he can play with himself since about 6m... sometimes some of it ended up in his mouth

just be wary of shapes and textures he could gag on, like the fat on bacon for eg. otherwise i give him just about anything...youd be surprised what they can do if you just let them try!

My DS (7 months) had a cream cheese sandwich at a party, broken into bits and fed to him, and loved it. He's also v keen on bagels...

My ds loves pitta bread. It keeps him amused for a good 20 minutes while I chat on the phone too!

Tried orange and chicken today. Orange made her pull a very funny face .

I am loving this weaning malarky. DS ate a wholemeal pitta dipped in parsnip soup for lunch, and he looked chuffed.

I love weaning lark to. Love the excitement it creates. .

I know! I love the look on his face when he puts something new in his mouth...there are so many; indifference, pleasure, yuk, uncertainty.....

I am abandoning purees though- BLW rocks! I can't wait for breakfast time again.

Wondering if he can have pasta, and whether it should be big shapes or little ones? Will try babyledweaning.com and see if there's anything there.

DizzyBinterWonderland · 18/12/2006 21:41

dd manages pasta twists very well. she's 7 months.

DetentionGrrrl · 18/12/2006 21:57
