Mini-sandwiches & savoury spreads? made of what?

Some books recommend 'savoury spreads' and mini-sandwiches from 7mths, but don't say what they are. What do you put int the sandwich?
Can they have humous? Do you have to make it yourself b/c of salt content?
Annabel Karmel recommends marmite, but from what age is it OK?

I've been making her savoury rusks with watered down marmite on them for my 8 month old but I think I'd be worried about the salt if it wasn't watered down. How about Phiily or banana or avocado - they would hold the sarnie together quite well. I know lots of the blweaners on here give hummous so it must be ok salt-wise.

fave ones for ds when he was fairly tiny included hoummus, and philadelphia with a smidge of marmite

Marmite is in my view too high in salt, I use Natex for my DD, which is a low salt version and tastes much better. I actually prefer it to Marmite now and I used to be a real Marmite fiend. I buy mine from Holland and Barrett but you can probably find it in any health food store. It costs around £3.50 but it's a big jar and lasts forever, even in our house!

avocado

I will have to try Natex. DS2 loves marmite but I am worried about the salt content.

Thanks for the tips! I'm going in search of Natex.
