Alfie usually has toast, roast veg pieces, omelette cut in strips, pieces of salad and cheese chunks, leftovers from previous night's dinner , pasta or pitta and hummus (homemade so less salt)

TEEstheCEEsontobejolly · 12/12/2006 15:12

Today mine has bits of smoked mackeral, bits of cucumber, bits of cheese, a couple of breadsticks. Then she'll have blueberries and grapes (cut in half!)

Yesterday she had baby corn, carrot batons, sugar sanp peas and home made chicken nuggets.

munz · 12/12/2006 15:14

is hard cheese ok? (wasn't sure, do you give a mild one?) he's only 9.5 months btw. omeltte - there's one - althou i've tried scrambled eggs and I have his nose turned up at it! lol - in fact i'll correct that he gags at the smell (has to smell everything first) then chucks it on the floor for the dogs to have later on

again is the oiley/tinned fish OK? are there any bones in them?

OP posts:
munz · 12/12/2006 15:15

(must get more littel veggie snacks I think then - he likes pepper sticks out of the fridge - he sucks on them but enjoys them none the less)

Alfie is allergic to Red Leicester but loves mild or mature Cheddar.

TEEstheCEEsontobejolly · 12/12/2006 15:17

mild cheddar will be fine.

cheese on toast
strips of red pepper
sweet potato
jacket pots
bits of chicken breast (boil in apple juice to keep nice and moist)

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 12/12/2006 15:19

i started dd off on the same strong vintage cheddar that we have in the house and she now turns her nose up at mild cheddar. i only did it cos it prevented me from having to remember to buy two types of cheese.
for lunch we often have french toast, a sandwich, pittas, salad, soup, that sort of thing.

DizzyBinterWonderland · 12/12/2006 15:20

munz- you don't have to start with mild cheese, just give whatever cheese you have normally. if that happens to be mild then fine. you don't really have to be wary of strong flavours at all. your baby could just as easily not like a mild flavour as a strong on IYSWIM.

i wouldn't give fish with bones in, even edible bones. but if you're eating bony fish you could give baby flakes off yours.

tinned fish yes fine. some people are wary of giving it too often due to mercury levels.

today for lunch dd had bananas on toast, a peach and a pear.

CorrieDale · 12/12/2006 15:20

We always gave DS the cheese we like ourselves - so Seriously Strong Cheddar makes the grade, as does Lancashire. I don't like him to eat too much because it's quite salty, but he really loves it. My advice with all weaning is only give your DC what you'd eat yourself! So if you like strong cheese, give him that!

DS likes beans on toast, eggy bread, peanut butter, rice cakes, cottage cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, breadsticks. Banana & philly on toast. Toasted sandwiches. Crumpets. Pittas & humous (this was always enormously popular). Bread dipped in thick soup. We always have fruit to follow. If you're avoiding peanuts until he's one, Holland & Barratt stock a nice almond butter.

DizzyBinterWonderland · 12/12/2006 15:22

you can give soup by pouring it on bread or toast and let your baby pick up the bread once it's soaked up the soup. that works well if you find it too messy by giving them soup the normal way.

munz · 12/12/2006 15:24

carrie - we were avoiding them for as long as possible tbh - I think 5 has been mentioned - I don't see any need for him to have nuts until he's much older - no specific reason behind it other than the recommended age, it's just I feel he doens't neeed them.

thanks for the info re cheese - I normally have catherdral mature, DH has any variation on wensleydale, cheshire, lancaster.

eggy bread - hmm sounds nice how do you make that one? is it literally pour egg onto bread in the pan?

i've always been weary about fish due to the little bones, as DH keeps saying to me waht might be small and fine for us for him will be far too big.

DS (8 and a half months) loves toasties for lunch, especially ham, cheese and tomato.

Like Aitch we go for strong cheese, he even scoffed a bit of my goats cheese yesterday.

Other lunches are baked potato in big chunks with beans and cheese, bits of veg, soup, pasta if we're not having it for tea, pitta, anything really - if it can be eaten he'll eat it.

Someone metioned blueberries earlier, he loves them, but I never halve them, is this dangerous?

munz · 12/12/2006 15:26

will try the soup as well thanks for the tips girls.

OP posts:
munz · 12/12/2006 15:27

percy I've never halves them.

i'm assuming wedges as well?

OP posts:
TEEstheCEEsontobejolly · 12/12/2006 15:28

I don't halve my blueberries either, it's teh grapes I was halving, not the blue berries.

DizzyBinterWonderland · 12/12/2006 15:28

eggy bread- crack egg into bowl. dip bread in egg so it's totally covered and absorbed some. fry in pan.

(tis extra nice done with brioche and sprinkled with sugar, but that's for mums not babies!)

CorrieDale · 12/12/2006 15:29

I wouldn't give DS whole nuts until he's 5, but he's been having nut butters since we started weaning. We're veggie and nuts are brilliant for fatty acids, iron and protein. Also extra calories for him! He didn't have peanuts in any form until he was one though because DH is allergic to bananas, and I didn't want to run any risks.

Eggy bread: break egg into shallow bowl. Add dash of milk. Beat. Put slice of bread into bowl and let it soak up the egg. Turn it over to do the other side. Fry in butter/olive oil/both! Yummy. Great for a snack too once you're at the two snacks a day stage (now that's when I really get stumped!)

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 12/12/2006 20:37

oatcakes, corrie! i'd forgotten about oatcakes for a while and now we are super-snacky i'm rarely without them.

munz · 13/12/2006 15:17

oatcakes - ok how do we do those? or are they the ones you buy?

today he's had cubes of cuecumber, and tomatoes 1/4'rd, and eggy bread - which I must say he didn't like and turned his nose up - i'm assuming thou I just keep offering the egg? - it seems to be eggs at the minute he's not liking - do you guys just keep offering things to see if one day they'll actually take to it as at the mnute i've been sticking to what I know he likes - which is no good really I suppsoe - althou this time he actually had 2 chucks of cue and a suck on the toms so have progressed on those

need to get hummus bread sticks and some soups - althou for dinner tonight I was going to give him half a slice of bread, with beef soup. and veg, I'm assuming it will be OK, as he bearly had one soldier of bread for lunch?? (thinking of the salt aspect??)

OP posts:
munz · 13/12/2006 15:19

atich do you mind if I like your blog to mine? (thought i'd best ask)

OP posts:
whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 13/12/2006 15:28

not at all, that'd be great in fact, i'm very nosy so will be delighted to ahve a peek around your blog.
i buy oatcakes or make them from mawbroon's recipe, they're really easy. and to be honest i don't give too much of a stuff about the salt thing, just because i know that pretty much everything that she eats is home-cooked and salt-free. but other people feel differently.

munz · 13/12/2006 15:46

hmm very true, I do try to limit his intake, but salt's in jsut about everyhting! i'm careful not to add any salt and do give him 98% home cooked food i'd say - the odd tin of low sugar/salt beens (well portion) iycwim.

as for my blog! lol - i'm in the middle of doing it still, having trouble/frustrations witht he post dating thing, and also I want to create an album of pics of him from birth to now (we have tonnes but also struggaling with that! lol) we've made them private thou as due to some of the picks that will be on there/content etc of the posts i'd rather it wasn't open for all to see iycwim. (will add you to my invites thou.)

If I want her to actually eat, she has omelette. Othwise it doesn't much matter, as she just throws it around anyway.

Will he eat sandwiches? If so you could do those most days - afterall, it's what most working people have for lunch every day.
