Yoghurt and snacks

Hi
A friend told me that she made her own yoghurt for her children to avoid the supermarket ones with additives in etc. but this was 30 odd years ago!

Just wondering if anyone knew if you can get yoghurt so made of all natural ingredients or should I get yoghurt maker and do it myself? I don't want to have the hassle of making yoghurt if I can get just as good from supermarket!

Also what healthy snacks are there, lo is currently 5 and half months old. I'm doing first tastes from Annabel karmel at the mo, 2 tsp but how do I know how much to give her as she grows older? Do I give her food until she's full and pushes away?

I don't tend to like most flavoured yoghurts as they are full of sugar. So we just used natural or greek yoghurt (not homemade!) and sometimes added fruit etc.

I didn't do Annabel Karmel though, I don't think you need to be that regimented. I was more of a blw, let them lead and taste most things we ate!

Just use plain green yogurt. You can add fruit purée if you like but mine love it plain still

Plain greek yoghurt here too. The Total stuff has the highest protein if that is of any interest! My 10mo DD laps it up. Plain natural yoghurt that you buy in the shops should be exactly the same as what you'd make in a yoghurt maker. It's hard to get the nice thick greek type yoghurt though. I find the thick stuff better when you're trying to get them feeding themselves!

I don't think you need to worry about snacks yet, just main meals. At this age they should be having milk as their main food, so between main meals just give milk. When DD was about 8.5m she started refusing milk during the day, most days, so then I started giving her snacks if she seemed like she was flagging and the next meal was a while away. Now we do rice cakes and no sugar cheerios usually for snacks.

I stew fruit in a pan with a little water until soft. Combinations of anything really: strawberries, apples, pears, plums, nectarines, raspberries, peaches, mango. I use frozen and fresh, whatever I can get cheap. I store individual portions in little tubs in the freezer and then defrost as needed. I mix them with natural yoghurt and sometimes add muesli too as my dd isn't a great eater. She loves it. She'll eat the yoghurt plain but I like her having the fruit too.
