What else can I feed her?

My dd is 14mo and has cows milk protein intolerance.

We're finding it difficult to find new foods and meals for her.

Typical days food is baby muesli for breakfast with oatmilk and a bit of toast. Beans and toast or spicy bean soup and toast for lunch. Fruit afterwards.

Tea has been an Annabel Carmel curry that I've cooked for her (3 different kinds) with rice. Usually avocado and fruit as well and a rusk in oatmilk afterwards. She doesn't really eat the curries now so we mix some bean juice or fruit pot with them to sweeten it.

She won't eat veg, eggs, meat, potatoes, sandwiches. Has anyone got any suggestions I can try please? It's really difficult that we can't give her anything with milk or cheese in. We tried goats milk recently and she was poorly from that as well.

Weetabix or porridge for breakfast

Poached or baked fish, with pasta shapes big enough to pick up.

Have you tried making vegetables 'fun'? Chips, cut into shapes etc

Thank you so far, I've got to go out now but will check back in later.

Please keep any ideas coming!

Sausage and beans for breakfast, just make sure you cut the sausage lengthways first. We like jus roll pain au chocolat which is df and I sometimes make blueberry pancakes with almond milk in instead of cows milk. Would she eat those as they do have an egg in.

Other than that, have you tried thing like smooth nut butter on toast? Almond butter is particularly high in calcium.

I know she's not keen on meat, but have you tried spag Bol or a mild chilli made with quorn? It's a bit softer than meat.

Try making some salmon nibbles too. Cut a salmon fillet up into the size of a chicken nugget, dip in a whisked egg and then coat in breadcrumbs. Back for about 15 mins. Great served with sweet potato wedges.

Have you tried cooking with violife? I'm camps and don't like cheese because I associate it with having a reaction but she may not have that association yet Smile

Sorry to keep bombarding you. Try salmon fish cakes. Tinned salmon with bones is great for calcium. Tinned sardines on toast are a good one too.

Just out of interest, what do you do when she refuses a meal?

WankerDeAsalWipe · 28/08/2015 19:15

How about using vegan cheese or other non cows milk cheese to make macaroni cheese or mini pizzas etc.

At that age mine used to like a little mix plate with little bits of ham, squares of cheese, some sweetcorn, raisins, mandarin segments or apple pieces and a couple of toast triangles and they' make up their own taste combinations.

Have you tried other soups?

Pasta was our saviour and still is to an extent even though I now have teenagers :)

What about noodles too?

Salmon paste on toast?

Try MNs recipes for toddlers. All the recipes I've tried have been good.

What do you do when she refuses a meal? Which milk is she on and how much is she getting?

Is she under a Paed Dietician?

Thank you for the replies and ideas, very helpful.

I'm still bf (so dairy free diet for me as well). When she was diagnosed with cmpi, I learned online that children can also have problems with soya. So I stopped soya as well (before we started weaning).

We always manage to find something she'll eat, even if it's some avocado and a bit of bread and butter. It just doesn't feel right though. Part of me thinks she holds out for sweet things as well as she'll happily eat fruit and rusk in oatmilk.

I'd stop the alternatives, especially if you suspect she's holding out. Just offer the food and if she eats it great, if she doesn't, just assume she's not hungry Smile

My DD is cows milk intolerant. My paediatrician told me only about 10% of cmpi babies also react to soya so it might be worth trying soya products as they do make life easier. DD breakfasts are one of following weatabix, porridge, fruit and soya yoghurt, crumpets, pancakes made with soya milk. Main meals, risotto with bit soya cream added at end. Pasta with maybe just plain tomato pasata or creamy version can be made by whisking soya cream cheese with some soya cream for a 'white sauce'.Fish fingers just peel the coating off. Birds plain basic custard powder can be made up with soya milk for dairy free version. I've even made rice pudding with soy milk using risotto rice and given that as a breakfast with bit of fruit or a pudding.
