So can someone tell me what happens with going from formula to milk at 12 months?

how much should they be drinking? will this mean dd drinking loads of cow's milk as a substitute? how do you handle the transition and should i dump bottles at the same time or what?

gadm i feel like i've got this 12 month thing in my head, but part of me would just rather keep going as we have been and let dd phase out formula milk when she wants to... would that be wrong?

heyulp!

stop hopping threads and send me an email for god's sake!

didn't understand it, didn't know who it was from and can't remember what it said! Remind me...

MMMMmmmm. FunkyDude will be one on Friday and I have the same thoughts?

I am going to start with swapping the breakfast bottle for cow's milk. So that if there is a reaction I have the whole day to watch out for it. I'm inclined to think that by mixing it with formula you are creating a new taste and possibly he can have a reaction to the mixture.

But then again I can be anal at times.

He doesn't eat red meat. I have to sneak chicken in his meals and I think therefore I am worried that I might have to supplement iron somehow. Not to sure about that yet, maybe one bottle of formula per day until he sorts out his meat eating habits.

Has funkydude not had any milk at all eg on cereal? Both mine had milk in food from 6 months.

TheHighwayCod · 20/11/2006 20:15

i NEVER used formula on food
errrrrgh

AitchTwoOh · 20/11/2006 20:20

we have recently used cow's milk in cooking with no ill effect, but i do whack a scoop of formula into hub's porridge pancakes.

No he's had cow's milk, I just thought a mixture might upset his stomach or something. No allergy worries really. But hey, you never know, i.e. onions gives him a rash in his face, otherwise he's fine.

aptimil? god that stuff stinks

iwouldloveadollypleaseSanta · 20/11/2006 21:09

i have started giving dd (10m) cows milk in cooking - but nice to read on this thread some answers to concerns i've had about swopping to cows milk. I am bf and tho dd drinks water from cup i wonder what she will think about milk from cup....!?

Mum2FunkyDude · 20/11/2006 21:11

FunkyDude only drinks water from a cup, and sometimes "rooibos" red-bush tea from a non-spill cup. I do not even want to consider that transition yet. I think I will do the milk first and once that is a familiarity I will do the cup transition.

AitchTwoOh · 20/11/2006 21:13

that's one of my worries, dolly. dd drinks water from the beaker thing if i want to keep her dry(ish!), but in the house she uses a shot glass. that's going to be filthy if she's drinking milk.

and yes enid, aptamil absolutely honks. i nearly vommed the first time i made it up (but then i was completely unhinged at the time thanks to failure of bfing). the old story, the midwives said it was the best so that's the one i used... baaaallocks...

yes going straight from boob to cup seems like a huge jump - but then no bigger than from boob to eating bread and she did that OK.....? i suppose the only option is to try it once and see how it works, what's the worst thing that can happen? Aptamil smells like puke.

AitchTwoOh · 20/11/2006 21:24

fish puke
