Hiya,
Ive just been reading a leaflet about weaning, and under the bad for teeth section is dried fruit? Is it bad? Ive never used it, but, presumed it would be healthy...

my h/v said to give J rasins for the pincer motion, he normally has a small handful (bout 12) and that's a snack for him, or blueberries but he doens't have them every day thou.

Dried fruit is really sticky so it coats their teeth, hence the 'bad' rating. OTOH, it's also a lot healthier than other snacks and if you don't give masses of it I can't see it being a huge problem.

Anything that contains sugar (fruit or otherwise) is bad for teeth but decent dental care, ie brushing everyday before bed, is much better than filling them full of artificial sweeteners. Fruit juice is better for them than low sugar squash, or high juice, especially if you water it down a lot.

I wouldn't panic too much, dried fruit has to be better than sweets and orange juice is a lot better than fruitshoots .
