How much food

My 6mo has been having puréed fruit and veg for a few weeks now, am I right to be giving her as much as she wants at each meal time, even if it's quite a lot, she always wants more. She's certainly not overweight so I don't think its a problem? Also how long do I carry on with puréed? Do I gradually pure less? Also can she have puréed chicken and fish now she's established with fruit and veg?

Watching with interest. Was just thinking this at lunchtime as Dd2 who has only been weaning 3 weeks put away half an avocado, a few bits of toast & a small pot of yoghurt.
I remember from DD1 that they always said they would regulate own intake but that seemed like loads!

From 6 months you can give everything except honey and whole nuts. You can give finger foods with each meal as well.

I don't know how you move from purée to non puréed food (I did BLW), but I guess you could try food that has been mashed instead of puréed. Then make it less and less mashed up as time goes on.

Oops, meant to add that yes, you should let them eat to their appetite.

She might be wanting more protein and fat - so yes give chicken etc. They need a relatively high fat diet or their weight gain can slow. My dd filled up on rice and veg and I'm now having to fatten her up!Grin

Twisted wow that would take my 8 month old 2 sittings! Well done! Grin

Definitely feed as much as they want - but I reckon meat etc is a good idea as puréed veg and fruit is fairly low calorie. When do you give milk? This should still be main source of calories for a bit so the main thing to avoid is a tummy full of low calorie purée and no room for nutritionally dense milk. I did BLW so can't advise on specifics of moving on from purée but try giving finger foods a go alongside mashed food.
