DS is weaning and has been eating baby porridge every morning. I'd like to give him a bigger variety of breakfasts. What are the most nutritious breakfasts we could give him?

He's 29 weeks old and has been suffering with constipation since we've started weaning.

Have you tried weetabix with yogurt instead of milk and fresh fruit on top? Always a win win in our house

Normal adult porridge mixed with fruit purée

Yoghurt with fruit purée

Toast

Wheetabix

Egg Bread

Strips of Omelette

Also full of fibre so should help with the constipation.

Are you doing puréed or finger food?

I gave mine:

Porridge and porridge pancakes
Yoghurt
French toast
Pancakes/drop scones
Crumpets/bagels/toast
Omelettes
Soft boiled eggs and toast soldiers
Pieces of fruit
Dry cereal such as Cheerios
Quesadillas

We've been doing a purée diet at the moment and DS seems to choke very easily which I get very anxious about. I'd like to start moving DS to a more baby led diet but although he can pick for up he won't put it in his mouth. He will suck bananas or his fruit net if I hold it but he will not pick things up.

With the yogurt, is there a best type? Plain, Greek?

I used to give DD adult porridge with fruit puree, yoghurt with fruit puree, toast, fruit. I'm sure I read that it's good to give them pears if they are constipated, as opposed to banana which makes the problem worse apparently...

The choking reflux is a normal gag reaction when they are learning to chew, completely normal but utterly terrifying for you!
You could give him finger foods which are easily absorbed in his mouth to encourage him to feed himself - offer at every meal and he will soon get the hang of feeding himself

I've used both Greek and plain yogurt in DD food, no preference really Smile

DS had difficulty with adult porridge 'til about 8 moths. Weetabix was easy from the off, though.

We did Greek yoghurt with fruit, weetabix and porridge with banana. I also remember toast fingers and fruit purée, although possibly they were a bit older, it's all a bit of a blur now!

Oh following this - my dd is 5 1/2 months and not really a breakfast baby (takes after her dad who doesn't do breakfast while I could eat a full english every day!).

So far I've just been trying baby porridge but was going to introduce weetabix when she hits 6 months but lots of other good ideas here!!

Eggy crumpets! (Like eggy bread/French toast only with crumpets)
