a couple of weeks ago i started blw with my 6 month old, and its going pretty well so far, he loves it and is managing to eat little bits. Hes got allergies (cmp, soya, eggs) so im introducing other allergens very slowly. His poos have become really mucousy though, and i was wondering if this happens to other babies? it was one of the symptoms of his egg allergy but he doesnt seem to be causing him pain and i dont want to fall into the trap of thinking everything's a symptom! Could it be his tummy adjusting?

Neither have mine have had mucousy poos. I do if I have dairy but I'm CMPA. Could there be so ething else that's bothering him? Could you keep a food dairy?

I'm not sure if this is related but my ds used have mucus in his poo whenever he was teething.

Mine did at first - she has no allergies though (that we know of). HV said the actual solid nature of the food can be a shock at first (I suppose physically touching the gut if the veg bits in poo are anything to go by!).

However she also had a cold and teething round the same time, both of which also cause mucus.

Now her poos are still soft but pasty yellow/brown, not mucus. I've not cut out any foods bur have been steadily adding more variety. So the mucus must have been the shift to solids, teething or the cold.

no mucous today! i take it the recognisable, undigested bits of food are normal?

Oh yes. Normal ... and oddly fascinating.
