Hi folks - getting myself very confused.
DD is almost 7m and BF -loves expensive organic porrige (wheat free), thought ready brek alternative but know not s'posed to heat EBM. Tried with mix of boiling water and cold EBM but not sure if its cooked?

You can heat EBM, just not re-heat once heated. If you place the EBM in the fridge straight after expressing and use it within 24-48hours you can heat it in a bit of hot water until the right temp. and use within an hour.

Ready Brek should be cooked like proper porridge, with water or milk. You can introduce a bit of cow's milk in or on the porridge too.

Ready brek is still very course, my ds gagged on it, so I switched to Oatibix, which he loves!

Thanks Mum2FunkyDude
Have warmed it pre bottle before but never cooked it IYSWIM.
Thought I read that the protein in BM denatured if you "cooked "it?

We give our ds readybrek made with cold (cow's) milk. I always thought it could be eaten hot or cold, tbh, but I have never checked...

Sorry - what I was trying to say (very obscurely) was that I thought you could make it with EBM without heating it at all...

debsielou · 06/11/2006 13:41

sorry thanks for that. missed point entirely- brain a bit non-functional (DD forgotton how to sleep!)
it tasted "boggin" until i warmed it for 20 secs- so spose that will be ok. Just getting paranoid about iron intake( although DH gave her a bit chunk of steak last night that she cheerfully chewed!

I think the milk does have to be very hot - says "bring to the boil" on the box.
