My baby hates my food.

DS2 is nearly 8mo and pretty much hates all the food i cook for him. The only things he likes are smooth baby cereals mixed with milk, petit filous and jars of puddings.

He hates greek yogurt and pureed fruit, all the savoury annabel karmel recipes i have cooked (even the sweet potato and ones with apple in).

We attempted BLW but he choked badly 3 times and everyone seemed to hate it.

I have batch cooked loads of meals but i end up throwing the lot away and he cries and cries because he is still hungry. He is also going off drinking his milk so wants something more solid. He has had an upset tummy in the night after eating my food too.

I have a very difficult toddler with suspected ASD and MIL is dying and lives a way away, so for the last couple of months we have relied on packets/cereals of food and now i'm worried i have ruined his taste for real food. I have very little time to spend cooking and don't know what to give him.

He also hates jars and Ellas kitchen pouches.

He hasn't tasted the bread yet. He isn't putting the food near his mouth. He certainly couldn't dip anything then eat it or use a spoon. He's crying now and I think hungry again so going to try a bottle.

Just a thought - is he teething? My eldest survived on a diet of toast & yoghurt exclusively for a period of about 2 weeks when he was getting some tricky teeth through.

But that's the problem Aber, he wont eat casseroles blitzed, he wont eat much of anything i make. i am having some success with mixing my food with half cereal, so i will continue with that and try to reduce the cereal/increase the food gradually.

He doesn't seem to have the hand eye co-ordination to eat finger foods. i put them out and he just squashes them and makes no attempt to raise them to his mouth.

He is teething atm, but has been since xmas. got bottom 2 and top right so far and i can see top left is coming.

Hurrah! Had a more successful dinner. Perhaps he's getting used to non cereal flavours. He ate a big portion of chicken liver, leeks, mushrooms, carrots and mash whizzed up with 2oz of milk and was still crying for food so had a jar of egg custard and some blueberry puree.

I have a 7 and a half month spoon refuser.

We have had to concede the only way he will eat is through BLW despite my fears about it.

By the sound of it your son is eating a hell of a lot more than DS. We can't get anything into him at all now. Unless its ice cream. Everything we've tried works a couple of times then he refuses again. The only way he will eat is if he's in control, which is mighty annoying as he's not capable of feeding himself really yet.

He's not eating much at all, but he is improving and I'm getting braver too. We started with baby wafers as they melt in the mouth when we first started weaning. I used to give him to him as I was getting his puree ready. DS kind of got the idea about putting them in his mouth and eating after a while. They were brilliant as it stopped me from panicking about him choking. It was about learning to eat rather than getting anything from it. AND giving ME confidence with it.

He has had pizza, omelette, toast mainly and not a lot else. We had a bit of success with pasta in cheese sauce and seemed to enjoy licking the sauce off. He's had naan and pita bread. Most of the time he plays with it rather than putting it in his mouth, but he's getting there slowly as his co-ordination gets better. I think its one of those where practice really helps.

I'm not making things for him anymore as I found it really demoralising - instead I'm trying to give him a bit of what we are eating. Plus toast. If he eats it great. If he doesn't, just let him play with it. No mashing. No dipping. We've been at it for two months now (I'm quite glad we started the wafers at the same time as puree) so don't loose heart too much if nothing goes in for a while. It took DS weeks to get this far and he's often still more interested in plates than food.

I'm calling it a success if ANYTHING disappears and/or it keeps his interest for a while even if it doesn't go in his mouth. I'd say at least 95% of what he eats is still milk.

I'm resigned to the fact DS is going to take a lot longer than everyone else to eat, but that doesn't make it any easier. Its soul destroying. Buy ultimately I can't do anything more.

Just a bit of licking and trying isn't uncommon for blw at 7 months I understand.
Mine won't do "just" blw or puree ... its kind of 50/50 depending on mood.

MrsKoala wow that's a big meal for under 8 months! Smile
