Lo is 5 and a half month old we had to start weaning early on advise of pead due to health reasons. So far lo has jar fruit/breakfast mix with fresh stewed fresh fruit and then for lunch a jar of dinner food like squash, cottage pie etc lo then has porridge with fruit in the evening. Has taken to food really well. The past week I have tried some finger food like biscotti and carrot stick which lo managed to gum without any problem. I batch cook some soups too for lunch time so not always baby jars. Am just at a loss with where to go next. I would like to introduce some snacks or something better for breakfast. Any ideas? Not got much frezzer space for batch cooking. And need things which are not to much dairy based as lo had milk allergy seems to have out grown it but don't want to risk it I only give little bits of yogurt every other day. High risk for allergies due to family history and lo has eczema. Referral for dietician has been put through weeks ago but no appointment as of yet

My 6.5mo really enjoys any kind of bread products. I cut them into strips and he sucks on them. He has had pitta bread, toast with butter, naan bread, tortilla, and this week has been having hot cross buns. Today I gave him rice cakes for the first time and they went down really well.
He also likes sticks of vegetables which I either roast or boil. I do extra of whatever veg we are having, and keep some for meals when we aren't having anything he can share or if we are going out. Cooked veg is fine for a few days in the fridge so no need to fill the freezer up.
I tend to do him a pared down version of whatever we are having, so tonight for example we had pasta with meatballs in tomato sauce, and he had some bits of plain pasta and some meatballs made into finger shapes to make them easier to hold. I also grated some cheddar for him because I though our parmesan might be too salty, but obviously you might not want to give your son cheese.

Is your lo reacting at all to the yoghurt? Have you tried and dairy alternatives like hemp, coconut or oat milk with cereals? You can get Wot No Dairy yoghurt and violife is a cheese substitute.

For breakfast you could try eggy bread, scrambled egg, oatibix, Ready Brek or Weetabix mixed with oat milk, blueberry pancakes made with alternative milk, a banana split lengthways, toast with smooth nut butter [almonds are high in calcium]. Jus rol croissants are Dairy Free too and agree on hot cross buns. Try buttering them with Pure Sunflower spread.

How is his weight and length now? I'd be reluctant to introduce more solids at this stage unless there has been a very clear improvement.

Are you thinking of offering a mix of purees and finger food? Have a read of the MN weaning recipes. Things like the Baby Dahl and Banana-Cado are very easy and will be more nutritious than the jars.

For lunch how about offering some finger food, like a sandwich, pitta pizza made with violife, homemade salmon fish cakes, hummus with raw veg, and maybe offer some puree for pudding, like a mashed banana, or wot no dairy youghurt.

For tea, could you offer what you are having? You can either just give it on his tray or mash it if he would prefer. Just watch the salt levels. You can get low salt stock cubes from most places these days.

Rice pudding made with koko milk is very nice, the whole family should like it.

Good luck Thanks
