I used to feed my little boy all home made purees, getting lumpier as he got older, however as I recenlty posted on another thread he has started to refuse the spoon fed stuff and is prefering to feed himself finger foods. Aitch's blog and posts have given me some good advice on which foods to try etc, however I am concerned that my lo isn't eating as much as he used to when spoon fed - is this normal. Also, I don't know if this is coincidence or not, but since I have started this he has started to wake up earlier in the morning - can he be waking with hunger or is he too old (10 months) for this to start happening again? Sorry for the long post

My dd never fully accepted a spoon, so I had no choice but to give her finger foods. She didn't really catch up with her peers with the amount of food that she ate until she was 11 months old or so. Does your ds actually eat most of what you give him or does most of it end up on the floor? Does he totally refuse a spoon? Pureed food contains more water then finger foods so you may be underestimating the amount that he's eating.

yes he does eat most of what I give him, and tbh he is really enjoying feeding himself. I think the problem is me I am finding it hard to give up the control to let him feed himself. Worried about him not eating enough and if this mioght affect his sleep etc etc. Before I had my ds I always said I would be chilled about his eating because I was a very fussy eater and used to hate it when people made me try things I didn't like, but it is easier said than done isn't it!!!

As long as he has the opportunity to eat as much as he wants, then try not to worry, he probably just isn't going through a growth spurt at the moment.
It's very hard to stop yourself worrying about how much they eat, but as long as he's healthy and developing well then you can trust him to eat as much as he needs. As for the sleeping - babies sleeping patterns do unfortunatly regularly change, due to the change in seasons, developmental stage, etc. It's not neccessarily due to hunger.

do you give your lo 3 set meals a day when blw as well as milk feeds?

Yes, from about the age of ten months I gave my dd the same meals as me and dh and my older dd, whether she eats it or not is another question - she really is a fussy eater. I still breast feed her on demand, she's now 13 months. Milk was her main source of nutrition until last month.
