How much should he be eating?

Ds is 27 weeks old and has been on solids for about 3 weeks (BLW). There is nothing he will not eat, and just seems like a bottomless pit. Should i limit how much he is eating or just follow his lead

i think the idea is that they control their own intake, certainly if they have previously been breast or formula fed on demand. have you looked at aitch's blw blog? babyledweaning.org very helpful

CastsSpellsWitchySpells · 27/10/2006 21:05

No I wouldn't limit the amount - letting him decide how much to eat is all part of the blw adventure. It may just be novelty factor at the moment, so don't be disheartened if he slows down at a later point.

Great to hear of a baby who has taken to it so well so early though .

Today
Breakfast- 1 slice of toast with butter
Lunch- 2 slices avacada and a rice cake, then had some of the tea cake i was eating, stuck hand in dh yogurt, then back to me when i got out the jumbo snack-a-jacks.
Dinner- tuket and veg

This as well as bf every 2 hours.

last night he ate the end bit of a crusty loaf with the middle bit scraped out, and ate the lot as well as a burger (home made as we had chilli) and veggies.

Absolutely follow his lead for the time being, but obviously keep an eye on his weight gain.
was he fed on demand prior to weaning?

littlepiggie · 27/10/2006 21:29

always fed on demand, although now cutting his night feeds down (started to feed every 2 hours)
He has always been a hungry baby.
Will not worry then, he must need it, he is naver still.
I just cant eat anything that he cant try in front of him or he screams, even drinks he wants.

Someone who cannot be named suggests giving them half their milk before their solids so they don't cut down too quickly on their milk which continue to be their main source of nutrition. Think they're meant to have a minimum of about 2 fl oz a day, but you can check that if you google it...

CastsSpellsWitchySpells · 27/10/2006 21:44

I assume that's a mistype Mumpbump, and you meant 20 oz rather than 2 .

littlepiggie · 27/10/2006 21:49

breasts still feel emptyby bed time, so dont think he is cutting down that much, he has solids then bf, he ends up stuffed and just sits there with red cheeks and nose, call it the sick a pin in me face.

Yes! 2oz would make for a very unhappy baby!!

ds was born on the 75th, went up to the 91st at 8 weeks, and in now on the 50th at 27 weeks.

like csws says, don't be too disheartened if he changes his mind about the amounts in future, he's in charge. for the moment let him eat what he fancies, but teething etc might make him cut back naturally anyway.

littlepiggie · 30/10/2006 09:45

hi aitch, got a picture on member profiles that i think you will like (what good table manners).
Wont worry, just seemed to eat a lot for the size of him, but hes the boss .
