My very lovely childminder suggested we might up the amount of food my DD2 is eating and drop some of the milk.

DD2 was 10 months old on the 19th of this month.

She currently has:

Breakfast:
200ml of milk at breakfast and half a weetabix and about half a slice of toast

10am:
200 ml of milk

Lunchtime:
possibly has 100 ml of milk but can blank it and only want the solids.
She'll have whatever I've cooked and defrosted, so about 4 ice-cubes worth of food and she'll finish with a yoghurt or some fruit

3pm:
200 ml of milk

Teatime:
possibly 100 ml or so of milk again and same sort of tea as her lunch

7pm
200 ml of milk

Then that's it til breakfast.

So what do you think? Should she be dropping some of that milk and eating more food?

Shall I come back tomorrow and hope someone's answered me then?

Milk is the most important thing up until 12 months.

Doesnt seem like too much milk to me....

TeeCee · 26/10/2006 20:51

That's what I thought re the milk being imortant.
I'm just not sure.

I think 4 bottles a day is fine. You might want to space out the milk from the meals though iykwim?

Thanks VVVQ

Why did she suggest this? does dd2 seem hungry/unhappy/whiney/really windy?

If not I would stick with what is working for now.

Its hard to remember back to where we were up to at different ages. I think I also was more likely to seperate the milk from the meal, so would have done an early morning milk, then breakfast with water to drink. Water with lunch and then an afternoon/post lunch milk...or something like that

Recommendation is to have 500-600ml of milk until 1 year old. Your DD is having quite a bit more than this, so if she is prepared to eat more solids then it wouldn't hurt to increase gradually and cut back the milk a little bit.

My DD was also 10 months on 19th and currently has:

07.30: Weetabix made with cows milk followed by
5 oz formula.

10.00: Snack- raisins, banana, biscuit etc with some water

12.00: Jar of food or home mdae depending on where we are! followed by yoghurt.

2.00: 5 oz milk

3.30: Jar or bowl of food, loves her pasta and veg and chicken etc.

4.30: Snack, quavers, raisins, banana etc

5.30: 8 oz milk

bed at 6pm.

i reckon dd has 200ml first thing, then 160mls at 11, then often no milk until 5 when she'll probably only have 100mls then 180 at bedtime and another 200mls as a dream feed. all very ish as we always make up 200mls so it's up to her how much she has.
so that's, what, 840mls if she's hungry, but it could be as little as 700 if she's not. and the funny thing is that she is eating a lot as well.
i am completely happy with that milk intake, she's loving her food and putting on weight (but not frighteningly so, iykwim?). hth, and hoping that everything is okay at your end.

MY Lo is a little younger at 8mths but has the following (and is putting on lots of weight and is very contented):

7am - breastfeed (about 15mins)
8.30am - breakfast i.e. 1.5 weetabix biscuits with milk and some toast and butter
11.30am - breastfeed
12.30pm - 2 course lunch e.g. pasta and sauce and a yoghurt
3.30pm - snack i.e. a banana or wholemeal cheese scone
5.30pm - 2 course dinner i.e. sandwiches, lumps of cheese and rice pudding
7pm - breastfeed

I don't think you can have too much milk. All I have heard is that it should be at least 500-600ml/day for first year (and maybe beyond - can't remember.

FreakyFloss · 31/10/2006 12:28

At about this age DS would have breakfast (weetabix, toast, porridge)
one bottle of milk approx 200 mls mid morning
Lunch one jar full + pudding
One bottle 200 mls mid afternoon
supper sandwich and yoghurt
night time bottle 200mls

He enjoyed his food. Also worth remembering milk in cheese, yoghurt and on cereal helps to count towards the total amount.
