Weaning yet?

My DD2 is 18 weeks old. She has started waking more at night (two or three times whereas she used to wake once between 7pm and 7am), taking a feed and then going straight back to sleep. Does this mean she is ready for weaning or is it just a phase? She gnaws on her hands a lot but has done this for weeks now. She was born at 38 weeks. She is not taking any more bottles during the day than previously but has started to take slightly larger feeds. Glugs the milk down but then brings up quite a bit each time! Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

Your HV will almost certainly tell you it is too early for weaning. It could be a growth spurt. You could try changing to a no.2 formula (if you haven't already) like SMA White which might satisfy her more. It could also be the beginning of teething if she is chewing her hands a lot. Does she show a lot of interest in what you eat, does she try to grab food off your plate? If it were me I would wait for a few more weeks, but go by your instincts if she seems very interested in food.

I would not wean yet, could just be a growth spurt.
I would say if she wants extra milk then let her have it. Could she be teething? Has she always been sicky? Maybe speak to your gp about a stay down formula.

Is she sitting up unaided yet, trying to put things in her mouth & chew them, showing an interest in food when you eat it or lost her tongue thrust reflex (where the babys tongue pushes food etc out of the mouth automatically)? Wanting more milk and waking in the night can be signs of readiness for solids, but only outside of any growth spurts or teething episodes so its better to look for all or most of the other signs as well to make sure that her gut is mature enough to handle anything other than food.
