7 months, weaning with terrible constipation

Hi all. Any advice on what to give my 7 mo ds to eat/drink to prevent constipation? He's gone from super runny bf poos to being so bunged up he cries and shreaks in pain when he has a poo. It's heartbreaking. :-(
I still bf him between meals....I've been giving him baby rice/porridge, mashed sweet potato, parsnip, carrot, avocado, cooked apple, banana - not all at once of course!! Have tried finger food but he chucks it on the floor and doesn't really eat anything like that .
I've read in a few places that baby rice can be a culprit . Is there an alternative savoury food? (I've noticed virtually everything pre made like porridge is all sweetened with fruit).
He does take some water at meal times (plus still bf)
I haven't tried toast yet.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Is there any reason that you're not just giving him normal rice and porridge if you think there's a link there?

Banana can make babies quite constipated. Prune juice will help though.

Your DS sounds is probably just adjusting to eating. My DS is the same ages and has the occasional hard poo day, although it doesn't seem to cause him any discomfort. I don't think it's unusual.

ellas kitchen prune pouches have worked wonders

How many meals a day are you giving him? He shouldn't be on 3 till about 9 months so cut back to 1 or 2 tops if you've gone fast.

Don't give baby rice, it's grim. Banana is also bad for constipation.

How often is he pooing? Is it soft?

I've found poached prunes on porridge help my dd. I just poach them with a bit of water and chop them up and add them to her porridge. I also restrict bananas too as she would eat 2 a day given glad a chance and they do bung her up.

Thanks all. He's on 3 meals a day (advised by health visitor ) but he doesn't eat that much...maybe a tablespoons worth for breakfast and lunch and 2 or 3 at dinner (of various things). I'm also still breast feeding him.
I will try him on prunes and back off the rice and banana.
At his poo is kind of putty in consistency so not hard but it obviously hurts a lot to get it out (poor boy!).
